Top Ten Movies of All Time: Honorable Mentions - Hoop Dreams (1994), Toy Story 2 (1999), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), American Beauty (1999) 10. Memento (2001) - I thoroughly enjoyed this movie about a man who can't remember anything past the last few seconds. The perspective is unlike anything I've seen before. 9. Stand By Me (1986) - A "coming of age" story about 4 boys and their adventure to find a missing child. Has 2 of the grossest scenes ever, but the story (from a Stephen King book) is great. 8. Dead Poets Society (1989) - The story of young men at a boarding school. "Carpe Diem" - Seize the day, is a critical theme. 7. To Kill A Mockingbird (1962) - Based on Harper Lee's amazing book about a lawyer defending a minority in the southern states. Told through the eyes of a child, the idea of overcoming prejudice is momentous. 6. American History X (1998) - Another film about prejudice, this time set in modern day. It has some good lessons and the kind of ending that leaves a message. 5.Schindler's List (1994) - An epic piece of storytelling surrounding the Nazis of WWII. 4. The Game (1997) - Though not critically acclaimed like the rest of this list, I absolutely loved this film. From start to finish... Especially the finish... 3. L.A. Confidential (1997) - A film about Los Angeles cops in the 50's as they try to solve a murder case involving local Hollywood icons. Very interesting plot.. keeps you watching. 2. The Usual Suspects (1995) - Damn that Kevin Spacey is good! ...A group of lowlife criminals come together to commit a crime. The best 5 minutes of film *EVER* are in this movie. See if you know what I'm talking about. (It comes near the end...) 1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Everything about this movie is great. It's easy to follow, with a few twists and turns that you don't expect, and in the end, everything works out for the best. |
