temecula valley international film festival
wendy (linda hetrick) gets some upsetting news.
.
well, i'm back from the Temecula Valley International Film Festival. as you know, Just Outside the Door screened there three times (on friday, june 18 at 11:30am, on sunday, june 20 at 5pm and on wednesday, june 23 at 6:30pm -- although actual times were considerably later), and seemed to get a favorable response.
my girlfriend melany helinski and i arrived in temecula on thursday june 17 after a whole day of travel. to get a cheap flight, we flew out of austin, texas, so we had to drive 3 hours from dallas to austin, then flew to LA (after a brief stop in phoenix). there, we rented a car (a cool neon sport!), and got caught in an awful LA freeway traffic jam as we drove to temecula. basically, about 85 miles turned into a 2 and a half hour drive. we were SOOO happy to finally get to the festival "hospitality suite" and then see my film poster (the full page version of the postcard designed by melany) taped on the window along with other film posters.
.
melany shows off the poster in the window.
.
when we walked around the corner to the temeku cinemas, the movie theater with 7 theaters where the films were all shown, we saw that a number of filmmakers had already begun covering the windows, walls, and doors with additional movie posters. having only brought about 10 of the postcards, i found myself at a bit of a disadvantage... so we taped up a few postcards but there was still plenty of space yearning to be covered up... so the next day we ran off 30 photocopies of the card and taped them up all over the place. by the end of the week, there was absolutely no place uncovered by someone's movie poster...
filmmaker john tranchina tapes up one of the photocopies.
the covered door windows of the temeku cinemas, including some viewable Just Outside the Door postcards. a festival worker sits nearby.
