Moving Out Stats

Sept. 2003

Due to certain unavoidable circumstances, I had to leave Eugene and the University of Oregon. But never fear; I managed to transfer - as a resident, no doubt - to The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash., where I am currently studying Media Rhetoric and my fun course, American Sign Language. Exciting, but, man, now I really feel dumb! (These people are REALLY smart.)

Last official day in Eugene: Monday, Sept. 29

What I'll miss most about UO: working at the Emerald
What I won't miss about UO: all the protesting
What I'll miss about Eugene: the Bijou, Gee's Pizza (the best paninos ever!), vintage shops, Ben & Jerry's, Smith Family Bookstore, 1 hr. from the coast
What I won't miss about Eugene: bikes!
Why I'm looking forward to returning to Oly: more time with the babies, Dirty Dave's, The Spar, The Urban Onion, Wagner's, Ralph's, Top Foods
Why I'll take my time driving there: hour-long commute, those dumb-ass roundabouts (I'm counting the days till I try to go the wrong way on Pacific or Lacey Blvd.)
Year in college: junior (actually, it's my sixth year -- spent one year as a freshman, three as a sophomore, one quarter as a junior, three quarters as a senior, and now Evergreen says I'm a junior; with my luck I might graduate before I'm 30.)
Most utilized track: The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Memorable moving-out moments: the babies feeding "Harry Potter" pizza crust; eating Ben & Jerry's sundaes with Dad while sitting in the car at 10pm with the A/C on; packing in 100 degree-plus weather with no A/C; realizing at 4am that I have too much stuff left and no more room in the car and class starts in 10 hours; "Hoover"-ing ants; pulling off a backed-up I-5 at 4:17 and speeding down Macadam Ave. in Portland at 4:20 so Dad can pick up his prize package from KISN by 4:30, then finding two parking spots in a row downtown in order to splurge on dinner (trust me, it's always worth it!); backing into the garage (oops!)
