Summary

A demon that comes forth every 1,000 years makes his millennium appearance, and an old archaeologist tells MacLeod that he is the chosen one who must defeat the evil. MacLeod and Richie at first don't believe him, but then MacLeod is visited by Horton, and later Kronos, both of whom he knows are dead. Methos and Joe think MacLeod has lost it, but Richie promises to stand by his friend. MacLeod finds the archaeologist's granddaughter, who gives him her grandfather's journal, which chronicles his search for the demon, Araman. Soon after, Richie sees Horton drive off with Joe as a hostage, but it's an illusion. Against MacLeod's warnings, Richie follows Horton, and MacLeod follows Richie. Araman begins to taunt MacLeod, alternating between the guises of Horton, Kronos and Richie. In his fury to defeat the demon, MacLeod strikes out and accidently takes Richie's head. When he realizes what has happened, he offers his own head to Methos, who refuses to take it, and then he leaves and vanishes for a year.
