Hard Copy

    Airdate: March 3, 1999

Intro: From the studs to the stunts, stay tuned for Norris' next move.

Kyle Kraska: Now the new Chuck Norris series CBS is hoping will blow the competition away. Jerry Panacoli goes behind the scenes of "Sons of Thunder" for a look at Chuck Norris' next move.

[scene from "Team Cherokee, pt. 1]

Jerry Panacoli: Meet the "Sons of Thunder." Now Chuck Norris is hoping he can make Texas thunder strike twice.
Chuck Norris: [smiling] If I knew the Neilson people, I'd go and beg 'em [laughs] to watch.
JP: Sons of Thunder is Chuck Norris' high-stakes gamble, creating this WTR spin-off around two young "Walker" regulars: Jimmy Wlcek and Marco Sanchez.
CN: And I think a lot of the wo...the younger ladies [laughs] will probably enjoy it a lot, too, because Marco and Jimmy are handsome guys and...and, uh, real...you know, real guys.
JP: Add spunky Dawn Maxey to the mix, and Chuck hopes he's found the red-hot recipe for success. Chuck's not only the show's executive producer, he's also making cameo appearances. Chuck invited "Hard Copy" on to the Dallas set to meet his new stars.
CN: [walking towards JP] How are you guys doin'? [shakes hands]
JP: Thanks for inviting us back.
CN: You bet. Glad to have you back. Any time, you know that.
JP: Marco Sanchez is well aware of the challenge ahead.
MS: People tune in because they love Chuck. And now, you know, they'll be watching us. [smiles] So, I mean, yes, those are some big shoes to fill. Um, I think it's gonna do well because Jimmy and I have been on many "Walker" episodes. I think we've...we've been introduced to the "Walker" audience.
JP: For former soap star, Jimmy Wlcek, "Walker" and, now, "Sons of Thunder," have saved him from following a very different career path.
JW: Well, after I left "As the World Turns" back in 1992, I seriously contemplated becoming a police officer in, uh, the town where I grew up.
JP: Having suffered through serious unemployment, Jimmy guarantees stardom won't change him.
JW: [smiling] My wife will kick me in the head if I do.
JP: The guys will also have former "In the Heat of the Night" star Alan Autry to keep them in line. And he feels very lucky to be on "Sons of Thunder."
AA: The key word there is "lucky," "blessed"...whatever you want to say. But, uh, I think my belief in this is probably why I don't have much patience for a bigheaded actor, or a bigheaded athlete.
JP: And with regular-guy Chuck Norris running the show, maybe lucky lightening *can* strike twice.
CN: I'm hands-on everything I do, but Sons of Thunder is a very - for my brother and I - it's a very important project, 'cause we're both executive producers on the show, and we both want to see it become successful.
KK: And Sons of Thunder will debut this Saturday in Walker, Texas Ranger's time slot for a three-week test run.

    DURING ENDING CREDITS:
KK: Well, that's "Hard Copy." I'm Kyle Kraska. We're gonna leave you today with more from actor/producer Chuck Norris, talking about his new series, Sons of Thunder. We'll see ya.
CN: I just think today we *need* positive type of images, uh, positive stories. There's so many negatives, antiheroic stories out there. I think, uh, the public is really *wanting* something a little more positive. And I think Sons of Thunder's a very positive-concept series like "Walker" is.
