Transcripts Sons of Thunder Written by: Bob Gookin Story by: Chuck Norris and Aaron Norris Directed by: Aaron Norris *Transcribed by Ace* (Car chase and the cops set up a road block) Carlos: (drives up) What have we got? Cop: Bank robber. Killed a guard and made off with a half a million in cash. He's heading this way. Carlos: Then let's stop him. Cop: We may not get a chance. There's a Texas Ranger hot on his tail. Carlos: (car heads for them and they draw their guns and Carlos fires) Jump! (hot air ballooning) Katie: Oh, I hate when you do that to me. Tommy: Come on, let's go! Thunder: Look at the kids. Tommy: Come on, get it there! Katie: I don't care, Thunder. I'm not getting into that balloon. Thunder: Be exciting- a real adventure. Katie: Living with you is adventure enough, thank you very much. Thunder: I promise you its totally safe. Trust me! Katie: Oh, whoa! (gets into the balloon) No, no. Wait! Okay, great. Thunder: Take my hand. Robber: Come on! Get this thing up now! (the criminal comes up and knocks Thunder down and jumps in) Katie: Thunder, Thunder! Robber: (shoots at Walker) Come on! Get this thing moving! Walker: Pastor Malloy, are you okay? Thunder: Don't worry about me. He's got Kate. Man: Come on, Ranger, let's go get him! (Carlos arrives in his car) Okay, turn me loose! Carlos: (jumps into the balloon) Ahhh! Get me up! Walker: I got you. I got you! (helps him in) Carlos: Don't let me go! Thanks alot. Oh, God. Okay. Walker: Can you get us above that balloon? Man: I'll do my best. Walker: (Carlos slumps down in the basket) You okay? Carlos: I'm fine. (pants) Actually, I'm not fine. I'm acrophobic. Man: You're afraid of heights? Carlos: Uh huh. Man: Why'd you get into the basket? Carlos: I don't know. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Man: Watch out! (robber shoots at them) Walker: Can I borrow your gloves? Carlos: What? You're going to...jump? Walker: You have a better idea? Okay, I'll see you on the ground. Carlos: (Walker jumps onto balloon) Ahhh! He landed on the balloon! Oh... (hysterical) Robber: Come on! Get this thing going. Move it! (Walker arrives and knocks robber out) Walker: You all right, Mrs. Malloy? Katie: Yeah, but he's not. (points to robber as Walker has him in a precarious hold) Walker: Take us down, will ya? (on the ground) Trivette: Uh, I guess its true what they say - you can run but you can't fly. (leads criminal to another officer) Katie: (family comes over to them) Ranger Walker, Trivette. We just wanted to thank you again. Thunder: And to ask you to come to our annual picnic and softball game at the church Sunday. Katie: We will not take no for an answer. Carlos: (walks over to them) Mr. Malloy, Mrs. Malloy, are you guys okay? Katie: Yes. How are you, Carlos? You look a little peaked. Carlos: Well, I kind of got a little thing about heights. Katie: You remember Carlos Sandoval, don't you honey? (looks at Thunder) Thunder: Of course I do. Trent's friend. Walker: Oh, by the way, how is Trent, Pastor Malloy? Thunder: He's fine. (at the base) Trent: My name is Sergeant Trent Malloy and this is hand-to-hand combat. It may be rough but someday it could save your life. (he fights the men) Miller, Sanderson, Roach. Focus Roach. Concentrate! Williams! Simmons! Not good enough! The enemy's not gonna give you any slack. (on a deserted road) Woman in car: I'm so sorry. Officer Williams: I'm going to let you go with a warning this time but please take it easy, all right? Woman: I will. Thank you officer. (she drives away as a man drives up and gets out) Man: Easy, easy Mitch. Don't you recognize me? (Williams has a flashback to a beating) Williams: Yeah, I thought you were- (man shoots him) Man: I was. (shoots him again) (at the apartment) Man: (drives up and goes to his room and crosses the officer's picture out. There's a row of pictures on the wall) (softball game) Trivette: Don't gloat! No gloating! (Alex curtseys) Please don't gloat! Tandy: That was a good hit, Ms. Cahill! Alex: Thank you, Tandy! Tandy: (hand bat to Thunder) Go ahead, Dad, knock Ms. Cahill in! Crowd: Yeah, let's go Thunder! Get a hit! Roscoe: Thunder Malloy, that's it! I'm not kidding around. This is the end. You have managed to beat me five years in a row but the fat lady's definitely getting ready to sing now! Thunder: Just throw the ball. Hey, this is a softball game, not a sermon! Roscoe: Amen! (pitches and Thunder steps back) Katie: Strike one! Thunder: (whirls around) What? Strike? Are you blind, ump? Katie: I may have married you, Thunder Malloy, but I'm not blind! Let's play ball! (puts mask back on) Tyler: Way to go mom! (calls from outfield) Thunder: Anybody can tell that's a perf-. Good call, ump, good call. (he mumbles and Walker laughs. Thunder gets a hit) Roscoe: Damn! Thunder: Watch out Moses! (dog chases after him) Alex: Way to go Thunder! (is driven home) Tyler: Thanks, Dad. Thunder: Moses, I hit the ball, not you! Now go on, get out of here. (sighs and bends over) Walker: You okay, Thunder? Thunder: Yeah. I guess I should have passed on that second piece of pie. Come on, Tommy buddy, bring your old dad in! Trivette: (punches glove) Right here, buddy, right here! Tommy: (gets up to bat and practices a swing) Going right over your head! Trivette: Looking at you, Tommy. Right here! (Tommy gets a long hit) Tommy: Oh yeah! Come on, Dad! (races after him) Roscoe: Man, six years in a row. Thunder: (he runs to home and as Tommy is surrounded by people, goes over to fence and collapses) Tommy: Dad! (runs to him) Roscoe: Thunder? (at a crime scene) Trivette: (watches cops zip body bag) This is the second one in three days. Walker: Someone is randomly killing cops. Trivette: Or killing people who happen to be cops. Walker: Exactly. Trivette: All right, let me check in the files. There's no obvious connections so far. Different departments, different ages. Walker: Why don't you pull the arrest records by officers in the last five years. See if there's a connection. Trivette: All right. Its a long shot. Walker: Yeah, I know. Only shot we've got. (man crosses off another face on his wall) (at the church) Katie: I guess this is it, huh? We had a wonderful life together. And I'm really grateful for that. I wish it didn't have to end so soon. (pats tie) I know you're in a better place (Trent shows up) and don't worry about us, sweetheart; we'll be fine. Trent: Mom? Katie: (turns around) Oh, Trent! (hugs Trent and starts crying) Trent: Okay, mom, its going to be okay. Katie: I'm so glad you're here. (Trent looks at Thunder) Trent: (comforts her) Its going to be okay. (at the house) Trent: (in kitchen) Mom, need any help? Katie: I'm okay in here. Why don't you go in the living room? I'm sure you have a lot of catching up to do. Alex: Starting with me. Hi, Trent. Trent: Hi Alex. (hugs her) Alex: I'm sorry about your loss. Trent: Thank you. Alex: Yeah, you go ahead. I'll help your mom. Trent: Two against one. Okay. (goes into the living room) Katie: Go on! C.D.: Mighty pretty funeral, son. Old Thunder would have been proud. Trent: Thank you, Mr. Parker. C.D.: Oh, son, you want to stay real close to your momma now. She's going to need you. Trent: (nods and goes into the study and visions Thunder's sermon) Thunder: Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall... Millie: Trenton, Trenton. (Trent turns around and Millie hugs him) Trent: Thank you Millie. Thank you. Millie: (walks away with friend) I've known that family for over thirty years. (goes and stands outside) Roscoe: (comes out and walks over to Trent) Trent, what are you doing by yourself, son? Everybody's inside. Trent: Its hard, Roscoe. Roscoe: Come on, sit down and talk to me. Trent: Part of me feels like I shouldn't even be here. Ever since I left the seminary and signed up for the army, Thunder and I just never really... Roscoe: Trent, your daddy was a good man. He was a hard man. Sometimes that got in the way. This was his. (takes out bible and hands it to Trent) Go ahead, take it. Look inside. (Trent flips open to a picture of himself in uniform) He never took that picture out of the bible. Never. Trent: Thanks, Roscoe. (Trent stands in the study, looking at his trophies) Walker: (comes in) Brings back memories, doesn't it? Trent: It does. Walker: (looks at trophy Trent's holding) Hey, I remember this tournament. You were one heck of a competitor. Trent: I had one heck of a teacher. Walker: So how are you holding up? Trent: I don't know. Its hard. So much to think about. I feel like a caged animal; I'm so antsy. Walker: Well, I think I've got a cure for that. (at the gym) (they box and practice moves for awhile and Walker knocks Trent down and he relaxes) Trent: Okay, okay, I feel better. I feel better. Okay. Walker: Okay, good. So, what are your plans? (looks at him) Trent: To tell you the truth, I don't know. I've been giving it a lot of thought though. I'm supposed to be back on the base Monday but then I've got responsibilities to my family and its kind of tearing me up. Walker: I remember another time when you were kind of torn up. As I recall, you worked through that okay. Trent: Yeah, with your help. Walker: Well, always here when you need me. Trent: Thanks, Mr. Walker. (stands up and Walker puts his arm around him) Walker: Okay. Trent: No more, no more! (they laugh) (at the man's apartment and he has a scanner on as he makes a bomb. Crosses out another cop's picture) (at the restaurant) Dave: I've never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life. All I'm saying is Marco Polo brought back spaghetti from China, right? In my book, it makes this Chinese food. Cop2: In my book, that makes you an idiot. Dave: My wife has that same book. Hey, I gotta go see a man about a horse. Cop2: Yeah, and if I see the waitress, I'll tell her to bring Chopsticks, okay? Dave: (goes into the bathroom. The man walks in and stands behind the cop) Its all yours, man. (looks up and has flashback) Hey, aren't you... Man: (shoots him) Yeah, Dave, I am. (leaves the restaurant and drives away) (at the house) Trent: (comes outside) Good morning, Moses. What have you got there? (picks up hat lying next to Moses) I guess you really miss him, huh boy? (pets him) (drives to cemetery) Trent: (goes up to Thunder's grave) Hey, Thunder. Its me. You know I thought I had my future all figured out but now, I just don't know. But as soon as I do figure it out, I promise you'll be the first to know. (at the house) Tyler: Mom, why did God take Daddy? Katie: I don't know, Tyler. But I tell you what I do know. That Daddy will be our very own guardian angel. Tandy: Really? Katie: Really. Tommy: (hears Trent arrive home) Gotta go. (gets up and walks quickly to the stairs) Trent: (passes by him) Hey Tommy. How's it going? (shakes head when gets no response and walks into kitchen) Hey, you guys. Katie: You're up early. Trent: Yeah, somebody I had to go talk to. What's with, uh, Tommy? (he sits down at table) Katie: He's just going through a rough time right now. Trent: Mom, uh, I need to talk to you. Katie: Are you guys done? Okay, go upstairs and do your teeth and make your beds. (they get up) Trent: Thanks Ty! (gives him high five and Tyler and Tandy go upstairs) I'm leaving the army. Katie: Oh, Trent, why? Trent: I talked with Roscoe and he told me how the insurance will pay off the house but after that... Katie: These things will work themselves out. Trent: That's why you need me here at home. I've applied for a hardship discharge and I've arranged for personal time till it goes through. I've got a little money put away and I've applied for a job as a security guard at the mall. Katie: No, the army is your career, son. I don't want you to let that go. Trent: Mom, this is something I want to do. No, more than that. This is something I have to do. Katie: Well, okay. Welcome home! (they hug) (at the mall) Mother: Billy, you think Grandma would like this? Billy? (kid riding a big wheel towards the escalators) Trent: (catches him and holds him) Whoa, close call! Where's your mommy, huh? Where's mommy? (mother runs over to them and thieves run out of the store) Evil Knieval, huh? Get down, stay here! Man: They robbed my jewelry store! (they shoot at Trent and he slickly slides down the side of the escalator) Trent: (beats them all up and man runs over to him) Man: Thank you! You don't know what this means. These items were brought in for appraisal. I could have lost everything. Trent: Just doing my job. Man: Just doing your job? Young man, you did much more than that. And just between you and me, your talents are wasted in a place like this. Mark my words. Thanks. Trent: You're welcome. (he starts to unload their guns and Carlos walks up) Carlos: Who did this? (asking mother with child, pointing to the mess and people on the ground) Woman: He did. (points to Trent and Carlos looks at him and smiles) Carlos: Trent Malloy. I'll be darned. (in the coffee shop) Carlos: I was real sorry to hear about your dad, Trent. Trent: Thanks, man. Carlos: Hey, I have to ask you something buddy. What's the deal with this security gig? Why don't you join the police force? Trent: You know why, Carlos. Carlos: Come on, Trent, we were just kids. You gotta let that go. It was an accident, man. (has a flashback to when they were kids and Trent shot their friend by accident) It was an accident, man. Trent: Hey, it doesn't make it any easier. Carlos: Why does that mean you can't join the police force? Trent: Because I don't carry a gun, Carlos. Carlos: How do you get through the army without carrying a gun? Trent: Simple. I used my martial arts training to become a hand to hand combat instructor. This security job is just helping pay bills until I can figure out what to do. Carlos: So, how's everyone doing? Trent: Ah, my mom misses Thunder alot. She tries to be strong, but... Carlos: And the kids? Trent: Tandy and Tyler are still so young I think they'll be okay. The one I'm worried about is Tommy... (at the gym) Adam: That makes ninety-eight. Two more! (he's doing something on his laptop and Tommy is running laps in the gym and three bullies come up and take it away) Hey, no! Give that back! Don't! Stop! Tommy: (comes over) Hey, give that back to him. Scott Baker: What'd you say? Tommy: You heard what I said. Scott: You want me to give him back his computer. Tommy: That's right. Scott: What are you going to do if I don't? You gonna make me? Tommy: If I have to. Scott: Hey, all right. No big deal. We were, uh, just playing anyway. Here. (drops the laptop on the floor and hits Tommy and Tommy falls, holding a hand to his sore face) What a girl! Ha ha ha. (they walk away) (at the house) Tandy: I think I can cover the bruises. (has makeup tray out) Tommy: Okay, Tandy. Be careful, okay? I don't want to look like a goof. Tandy: I am being careful. This isn't easy, you know. Tyler: What about this? (holds up mascara) Tommy: What's that for? Tandy: Eyelashes. Tommy: Thanks, Ty, but I think my eyelashes are the only thing on my face not bruised. Oh, man! Trent's home! Come on, Tandy, hurry up! Tandy: You know, you're pretty bossy for a guy who's wearing his mother's makeup. Tommy: All right, I'm sorry, okay? Could you please hurry up? Let's get this done, all right? Tandy: That's better. I accept your apology. Tommy: Not too much. (dabs cover-up on) How do I look? Looks good? (they nod) Ty, any of the bruises showing here, man? Is this going to work? Tyler: Looks good. Tommy: All right. Wish me luck guys. (at the table) Trent: Man, this sure beats army food! (shovels potatoes onto plate and everyone stares at him) Oh, sorry. (they bow their heads) Thanks for the food in front of us and the family around us. Amen. Katie: (starts to stare at Tommy, noticing something unusual) Tandy: Uh, Mom? Can I have the potatoes? (Katie passes them to her and goes back to stare at Tommy) Tyler: Mom, can you pass the peas? Katie: Thomas Joseph Malloy. Do you have on makeup? Tommy: Yes, ma'am. (Trent almost chokes on his food) I got into a little bit of a fight at school today. Trent: A fight? It looks more like you got hit by a truck. Tommy: May I be excused? (leaves and heads for the bathroom) Trent: (Katie starts to get up) No, I'll go. (he goes and knocks on the door) Do you want to talk about it? Tommy: There's nothing to talk about, Trent, okay? I'm not you. (slams door in Trent's face) (at the apartment, the killer crosses off another face) (at a cop's house) Cop: I'm home! (puts gun away in a desk and locks it) Wife: In here, honey! Cop: (goes into kitchen and hugs her as she prepares supper) Hey, hon! Oh! Wife: Dinner will be ready soon enough. Why don't you go upstairs and tell the kids to wash? Cop: Yes, boss! Kids, let's wash up for dinner! (doorbell rings) I'll get it! Man: (when he opens the door) Hi Danny, its me! (shoots him and he falls to the ground) Wife: Danny? Danny! (investigating crime scene) Walker: What have we got? Trivette: Victim's name was Danny McEvoy. He was on the force in North Dallas. He left behind a wife and three kids. Woman: Ranger Walker? Walker: That's right. Woman: Diane Dawson. I'm the new forensics psychologist. Walker: Well, this is my partner, Ranger Trivette. Trivette: How you doing? Taking over for Dr. Jackson? Dawson: I am. Well, my preliminary investigation shows it to be consistent with the other killings close range and face to face. Walker: What do you make of that? Dawson: He's making it a point that his victims see him before he pulls the trigger. Walker: Sounds personal. Dawson: If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to call me. Walker: Thanks, Diane. Trivette: I'm going to finish up inside. (they part and Walker spots Carlos leaning against his car and walks over) Walker: Still afraid of heights? Carlos: Sure am, Ranger Walker! Walker: Is something troubling you? Carlos: No, sir. Well, I knew the victim. Not well, but... Walker: Any idea who could have done this? Carlos: No, sir. (at the apartment the man crosses off Carlos's pic) (at the house outside) Trent: (is teaching Tandy and Tyler the basics of karate) All right, guys. Fighting stance. High block. Punch. Kick. Where's my ki-yi? I want to hear my ki-yi! Kick! Kids: Ki-yi! Trent: Okay, good! High block! Punch! (sees Tommy leave house and start down the driveway) Hey, Tommy, would you like to learn? Tommy: No. Tyler: I would if I were you. Trent: Hey, Tyler. Guys, keep practicing what I showed you. (runs after Tommy) I know what happened. Roscoe called to see if you were okay. Adam told him the whole story. I want you to know I'm real proud of you. Tommy: For what? Getting my butt kicked? Trent: No, for standing up to those guys. Look, Tommy. I'm your brother and I want to help. Now, there are a lot of things I can't teach you, but this I can. Tommy: (resigns) All right. Trent: (they begin practicing and Tommy practices his moves) Nice one! Keep those elbows in! Nice and loose. You want to bring that ankle down a little bit, thatta boy! Carlos: (drives up, gets out and over CB radio) Not bad, Malloys! Trent: Hey, Carlos! Carlos: Well, maybe this is something I ought to pick up. Trent: I've been only telling you that, what, twenty years? Carlos: I'm a little slow. Dispatcher: (on CB) All units in the vicinity of Pearl and McKinney. Report of domestic disturbance at 2216 Oaklawn. Repeat 2216 Oaklawn. Carlos: That's right down the street. Trent: Yeah. Carlos: (walks to his car) Dispatch, this is A-14. I've got it. (heads out) Trent: (continuing with Tommy) Relax, elbows in... (at Oaklawn apartments) Carlos: (gets out of car and man follows him) Dispatch, unit on scene A-14, 2216 Oaklawn. (turns out to be nothing and man comes closer; another car drives up and he goes to the window) How ya doing? (asks woman officer) Woman: Good. Is everything all right? Carlos: Just fine. False alarm. (man backs away and drives off) Woman: Best kind to have. Carlos: All right. I'll see you later. (gets back into his car) (at the station) Trivette: I don't know. The idea of some nut out there randomly gunning down police officers... Walker: I don't think that's what we're dealing with here. Trivette: What do you mean? Walker: Let's go back to the first shooting. Officer Williams makes a routine traffic stop on a deserted stretch of road. How did the shooter know when to be at the exact time of the shooting? Trivette: You think he's stalking them? Walker: Yeah, I do and I tell you why. Mitch Williams was a DPS officer for seven years- he was no rookie. The driver he pulled over stated that as she was driving away she saw another vehicle pull up behind the car. She also stated she saw a man get out and walk over to Officer Williams. Now, what's the first thing you do when you feel threatened? Trivette: Unstrap the safety snap from my side arm. Walker: That's right. Take a look at this. (shows picture of the scene) Trivette: He knew the shooter. (flashback to the shooting) Walker: Exactly. (at the mall) Carlos: Hey, Trent. Guess what I've got? I got tickets to the Mavs game this weekend. Trent: Who are they playing? Carlos: Chi-cago! Trent: I'm interested! (puts arm around his shoulder) Carlos: I thought you would be. How's Tommy doing? Trent: He's doing good. (at school in the locker room) Scott: (beats Tommy up again) You know, I'm kind of getting to enjoy this. You call that karate? (Tommy tries to fight and the others join in to hold him) I'll show you karate! (at the house) Tyler: Moses, come back! (he and Katie chase the wet dog through the house as Trent is fixing the microwave) Trent: Peanut, pass me the Phillips. (Tandy hands it to him as she sits down) Thank you. Tandy: (practicing reading from a book) Nevertheless, he still had more questions. (Tommy walks in, face all bruised) Oh no, not again. Trent: (Tommy walks on upstairs and Trent goes after him) Tommy, Tommy! What's going on? Tommy: (hesitates and then sits on the stairs) I got into it with the same guy, Scott. I was doing good, then his two buddies jumped in and... They all train over at the Jake Lyons Karate School. Trent: Those guys know nothing about karate. (shakes head and Tommy dabs at his bloody nose) (at the karate school) Jake: No, no, no! You call that a roundhouse kick? (demonstrates and student bends over) Yeah, its hard to breathe. When you don't keep your hands up. (spots Trent) Everybody break. What can I do for you? Trent: Could we talk in private? Jake: I'm a little busy, so if you have something to say, say it. Trent: Some of your students beat up my brother. (Scott and his friends snicker) Jake: (chokes back laughter) Then maybe you should sign him up for some karate lessons. Trent: He doesn't need your kind of lessons. Jake: No? Trent: No. And let me tell you something else, if any of your students ever touch my brother again, I'm going to come back here and whup your butt all over this mat. (he walks away grinning and everyone is taken aback) Jake: What? Hey, don't walk away from me! You're gonna whup my butt all over this mat. If I see you again that's it! (at the station) Walker: How's it going with the arrest reports? Trivette: Slow, slow. They were all good cops. Past few years, we're talking a lot of arrests, between them. Walker: Well, we gotta get a break sometime. See you later! Trivette: All right. Where are you going? Walker: Oh, the mayor asked me to brief the city counsel. No, he told me to. Unless you want to do it. Trivette: No, no. Walker: You sure? Trivette: Yes. Walker: Well, I tried. (at the house) Trent: (comes up in motorcycle while Tommy's shooting hoops) Hey, Tommy! You won't have to worry about those guys anymore. Tommy: Why? What's up? Trent: I went over to that karate school and had a little talk with their teacher. Tommy: You did what?! Trent: Just trying to help! Tommy: Trying to help? Who asked you Trent? You're not Dad and you never will be! (slams ball on porch and storms inside) (At Douglas's apartment) Trivette: (answers phone) Yeah, Ranger Trivette. Douglas: I need to talk to Ranger Walker. I see here where he's leading up the investigation of the cop killer. Trivette: Yes, he is but he's not available. Can I help you? Can I have your name, sir? Douglas: Yeah, Sergeant Bill Douglas, P.D. Retired two years. Trivette: All right, Sergeant Douglas. What can I do for you? Douglas: I may have some information on this cop killing. Trivette: Tell me what you've got. If you have information, why don't you- Douglas: No, not over the phone, Ranger. You never know who might be listening. Trivette: Why don't you tell me where you're at and I'll be right over. Douglas: 2837 Angus, apartment 21. (hangs up) (at the church) Trent: Roscoe? Roscoe: Trent! Trent: Have a minute? Roscoe: For you? Always! Have a seat. So, how are things going for you? Trent: Fine. (Roscoe looks at him) Actually, not fine. As a matter of fact, pretty much rotten. I've got a job I can't stand and a younger brother that thinks I'm the biggest jerk in the universe. Roscoe: Really? Trent: I mean, you know Roscoe, I was good at being in the Army. I knew what needed to be done and I knew how to do it. But this? I'm just no good at it. Part of me thinks I should just go and re-enlist. Roscoe: For whomsoever much is given of him much shall be required. Trent: Luke, Chapter Twelve. Roscoe: I see you've got a little bit of the Thunder in you after all, huh? You know Trent, the lord has given you pretty extraordinary gifts. Now, granted, he's given you some burdens too. Its up to you to decide which, burdens or the gifts, that win at the end. (at Sergeant Bill's apartment) Trivette: (knocks on door) Sergeant Douglas, this is James Trivette, Texas Rangers. Sergeant Douglas? (the man shoots twice through the door and the bullets strike Trivette in the upper right side of the chest.) Cop 1: (they arrive at the scene and he bends down to check Trivette's pulse, then shakes his head. The two move into the apartment) Oh, geez, Bill Douglas! Trivette gasps in the hall) Omigod, he's alive! 10-71. 10-71. We've got an officer down at 2837 Angus. 2837 Angus. (in the emergency room) Paramedic: (rushes Trivette in on a stretcher) Coming through! Coming through! We've got a couple of GSW to the chest; only one exit wound. He's lost a lot of blood; pulse thready. Doctor: Everybody ready? One, two, three. Okay, quiet. Let's get another line in. Shallow on the left. No breath on the right. Log roll him! Exit wound, upper right. No breath, shallow on the left. All right, we need trauma cart, stat! Nurse: Pressure's dropping; 50 over 30. Doctor: What's his blood type? Nurse: "O" positive. Doctor: Six units "O" positive, stat! Nurse: No pulse. Doctor: All right, he's in V-fib. Let's defribulate him. 200j. Clear! (shock him) Pulse? Nurse: No pulse. Charging! Doctor: Clear! (shocks him again) Pulse? Nurse: No pulse. Doctor: 360j. Clear! (shock him once more) Pulse? Nurse: We've got a heartbeat. (in Trivette's room) Doctor: He's suffered a tremendous trauma and he's lost quite a lot of blood. Both bullets missed the heart by less than an inch. One passed through clearly and we removed the second in surgery. Walker: What caliber was it? Doctor: Probably .38. Alex: Is Jimmy going to be all right, doctor? C.D.: Of course he's going to be all right, Alex. He's healthy, he's strong. He's- Doctor: Actually, Ms. Cahill, its too early to tell. The next forty-eight hours are critical. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. C.D.: You know, Cordell, Ms. Cahill and I talked it over and we're going to stay here in shifts. You know, just in case something comes up... I want you to find the fella who did this. And when you find him, and don't bring him in, It's sure as hell all right with me. (at the house) Trent: (in Tommy's room and Tommy is sitting at his desk doing homework) I'm sorry. I shouldn't have just gone to the karate school. I should have talked to you first. And I know I'm not Thunder. I'm not trying to be. You know, Tommy, this is new for all of us. And the only way its going to work is we all help each other. I can't do this by myself. Tommy: Well, that's for sure! (smiles at Trent) (outside the house practicing karate) Trent: All right! Let's see'em, Tommy. All right! Katie: (watching from the inside with the kids) He's looking pretty good, isn't he? Trent: That's my brother! Come on! (at the hospital) C.D.: Jimmy, I don't know if you can hear me or not. I just want to talk to you. I want to apologize for, um, kidding you so damn much. I don't mean anything by that. I, uh, you're a mighty good fella. I mean you are a mighty good person and a ranger too. Jim, if I ever had a son, I would want him to be just like you. Don't die on me! Don't you die, Jimmy! (cries softly) (at the station) Alex: Are those the ballistic reports from Jimmy's shooting? Walker: Yeah. Take a look at this. Trivette was shot with Sergeant Douglas's .38 service revolver. Douglas was shot with the same 4mm that killed the other four officers. Alex: I don't get it. I mean, why would the killers shoot Jimmy with another gun? Walker: I don't know. There's someone I can go to that might help me answer that question. See you later. (at a restaurant) Walker: Hello, Doctor. I need to ask you a question. Dawson: Oh, of course. Please have a seat. Waiter: Do you want anything? Walker: Nothing, thanks. Uh, why did he use Bill Douglas's gun to shoot Trivette? Dawson: Well, given the often twisted logic of a serial killer, the use of a different gun to shoot Ranger Trivette makes perfect sense. Just assume for a moment your theory is correct and that the shooting aren't random and the killer has some sort of vendetta against these officers. Well, in that case, the murderer would plan out each number in a minute detail. Walker: So, Trivette wasn't part of his plan? Dawson: Exactly. His shooting wasn't part of a vendetta. It was probably a case of survival on the part of the shooter. Ranger Trivette was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Walker: What does all this mean? Dawson: He's lost his pattern and from this point on, anything can happen. I mean anything. Whoever this maniac is, he's become a loose cannonball. (at his apartment and he sticks a knife in Carlos's picture) (at the mall) Woman: Jeez, what took you so long? (Trent walks up) See this three hundred dollar silk scarf? She had it in her purse. Girl: Three hundred for that thing and you have the nerve to call me a thief? Come on! (Trent hides his smile) Carlos: (man follows him) This better be good, Malloy. (Trent stares past him and the man aims his gun at Carlos) Man: Carlos! (Trent grabs Carlos as the man shoots and they go crashing through the window) (at the station) Walker: Sit down, guys. Okay, Trent. Can you give me a description of the guy at the mall? Trent: He was wearing a gray overcoat, black shirt and pants. Uh, wearing black boots with silver tips. I say he's 5'11", 6' and maybe 200 ibs, dark haired. Walker: Officer Sandoval, can you give me a name that fits the description? Carlos: It couldn't be. He's still in prison. Trent: Who is? Carlos: Rod Barkley. He was a metro cop. Walker: (on buzzer) Alex, can you pull the file on Rod Barkley? Ok, get it to me as soon as possible. Thank you. (looks at Carlos) You want to tell me about it? Carlos: It was about three years ago. I was out on third shift, about two a.m. and it came on the radio; a high speed pursuit on 635. I was in the vicinity, so I joined the pursuit You know how it is after a chase, the adrenaline, the fear...we were all wound up... Rod Barkley: (flashback) (finally gets suspect trapped) Get out of the car. Now! Suspect: Okay. Take it easy! What's the big deal? Rod Barkley: Big deal? (slams him to the ground with his stick) You want to know what the big deal is? (he starts beating him and the other cops pull him off and detain him) Carlos: It happened so fast. We were all shocked. Barkley just lost it. He almost killed the kid. Walker: What happened to Barkley? Carlos: Charges were brought up against him on attempted murder. At first he was going to fight it but when he found out we weren't going to back him up he plead it out. He took a six to ten on assault with a deadly weapon. As part of the agreement, he got to serve it out in a federal prison somewhere in, California. Alex: Lompoc. He was cited three times for excessive force, numerous complaints and he's been investigated by the IAD. He just got released on good behavior three months ago. Walker: Where does he live? Alex: 4100 Buckner Boulevard. Walker: Can you get me a warrant? Alex: You bet. (at the apartment) Cop: Police! Open up! (knocks on door) Walker: (suspects a bomb and shoves him aside and they run away as the bomb goes off. Rod Barkley gets away via catwalk) Walker: (goes outside to truck) Dispatch, this is Ranger Walker. Dispatcher: Go ahead, Ranger Walker. Walker: Patch me through to Carlos Sandoval, Dallas PD. Dispatch: Carlos Sandoval is 10-7. Walker: What's his twenty? Dispatch: 317 Main Street. (at the house) Carlos: (checks time) Whoa, I better be getting back to work. Trent: After you, partner. (walks him outside) Carlos: Thank you. Katie: Homework, who's got it? Tandy: Not me! Tyler: No. Tommy: Done, done done! Ha ha. (the kids go upstairs) (outside) Carlos: Thanks again for saving my butt. Seriously, Trent, you've got some amazing instincts and abilities. There's got to be some way for you to use them. And I don't mean at the mall. Trent: Actually, I've been thinking about that myself. I think I have found the answer. Carlos: So, what is it? Trent: I'll tell you soon, but I promised someone else they'd be the first to know. Carlos: Well, I'll be the second. Trent: You got it. See ya, buddy. (they high five each other Carlos: All right. Rod Barkley: Hey, Carlos! (aims gun at him and Carlos turns slowly as Trent watches on. Walker arrives and rear ends the car with his truck and pushes him away) Trent: Let's go! (hops into Carlos's car and they take off in pursuit) (at the warehouse) Trent: (they see Walker and the suspect a few stories up) Up there. Let's go! Carlos: (they round the fourth set of metal stairs and Carlos makes the mistake of looking over the side) Trent! (sinks to floor) Trent: What's wrong? Carlos: Its the height. I-I can't- Trent: Its okay, buddy, its okay. Come on. Carlos: I'm sorry. Okay. (Trent goes on to find them) (Walker is sneaking around one side, back turned to Rod Barkley and when Trent surprises him with a kick, his gun goes off accidentally and shoots Walker in the shoulder and Walker falls. Trent and Rod have a battle) Trent: (he and Rod go tumbling over the side of the catwalk and Walker grabs onto Trent's boot but Rod falls to his death) Walker, you're going to fall with me if you don't let me go! Carlos: (comes out of nowhere) Trent, hang on buddy! Give me your hand. (he and Walker pull Trent up) Walker: (they rest for a moment on the catwalk) Looks like you overcame your fear of heights, Carlos. Carlos: Who's afraid of heights? (looks around) Get me off this thing! (at the hospital) Trivette: (Walker comes in to see him and Trivette points to CD and Alex in the corner, who are asleep) Walker: Welcome back, partner. Trivette: I might need a couple of days off. (at the cemetery) Trent: (talking to Thunder) Well Thunder, you left me with pretty big shoes to fill and you know what? Its the best thing you could have left me. I know what I want to do now. I want to help people. I may not be able to help them the way you did but I can help them my way. I hope this doesn't come too late, Dad. I love you. And Dad, I know you love me too. (at the gym) Trent: So, how's the shoulder? (Walker punches him in the jaw) Walker: Better. Trent: Sorry I asked. (they wrestle awhile, then quit with stretching exercises) Walker: You know, Trent, I've been thinking about your future. Trent: That makes two of us. Walker: Now you said that you want to help people but you won't carry a gun. So my thoughts are...that you should become a... (at the same time:) Walker: Karate teacher. Trent: Private investigator. (they think a minute) (they go to look at an abandoned building) Walker: Well, what do you think? Trent: I think this is it. (they shake hands) (The Malloys, Carlos, Walker, Alex, Trivette, and C.D. work on setting the karate school up and Trent and Carlos take a break and go upstairs to the office) Carlos: Man, it is so great that Walker helped you get this thing started. There are a lot of people who need the martial arts. Trent: That's not all they need. (briefly holds up bible and Tommy comes up to join them) Tommy, just the man I was looking for. Take out the trash for me. Tommy: Why me? Trent: That's a good question to ask your brother but not a good question to ask your Sensei. Tommy: Why do I get the feeling there's going to be times when I'm really going to hate this? (smiles and takes out the trash) Trent: Come on, let's get back to work. (he and Carlos head down) (outside) Jake Lyons: (drives up with a few of his students as Tommy throws the trash in the dumpster) Student: Do you really think you can compete against us, punk? Tommy: (Trent comes and stands next to him and puts his arm around him for moral support) Yeah, yeah I do. Jake: I guess we'll see about that. (drives away) Tommy: Why do I get the feeling there's going to be times when I'm really going to like this? (they head inside) Walker: Well, there's only one thing left to do. Trent, you have the honors. Trent: Thank you sir. (removes tarp off Thunder Karate sign on wall) (six months later) Katie: (sitting in office, answering phones) Thunder Karate. Yes, we accept children five and up. (protection agency phone rings) Trent Malloy when all else fails. Trent: Tommy, take over. (runs upstairs) Katie: He'll be right with you. Do you want to come down and get a schedule? Yes. Thank you. I'll see you then. Trent: (picks up phone) This is Trent Malloy. I see. And how has he been stalking you? Have you gone to the police? They can't help you. I'll be right there. Mom, I have to go. Tommy is taking charge of the class. Katie: (walks him outside and he gets on his motorcycle) I hope you can help that woman. And son, be careful. Trent: I hope so too. I always am. Thunder's ending sermon: And seeing the multitudes up into a mountain and his disciples. He opened his mouth and taught them saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted, Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled, Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy, Blessed are the pure at heart, for they shall see God, and Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. |
