Chiropractors - my experiences
Several years ago, when I had my second major bout of sciatica, I decided to go to a chiropractor. I was still doing my exercises that I had learned in physiotherapy, but I felt that I needed more help.
It's difficult to say whether the chiropractor helped me, as he combined acupuncture with his chiropractic techniques. So, I can only comment on the acupuncture, I suppose.
Basically, a number of sterile needles were placed close to my sciatic nerve -- they were inserted in my lower back, right buttock, right thigh, right calf, and right ankle. Then, electrical nodes or attachments were placed on top of the needles, and impulses every five seconds were applied.
The acupuncture helped ease the pain for the first week or so. After that, the pain came back, and the intensity was a lot stronger. I continued to go to the chiropractor for another month or so, and stopped after realizing that the pain was still there. Thus, from my personal experience, I feel that my visits to the chiropractor/acupuncturist was not helpful. I then went back to physiotherapy, which has helped me immensely.
