President’s Message
The nation's capitol was the site of the 2006 AORN 53rd Congress. Color and excitement were the order of the week as Washington D.C.. put on a show of its famous tulips and the start of the cherry blossoms to welcome visitors as more than 7,500 AORN members and others came together with industry sponsors and exhibitors to learn the latest information on perioperative clinical practice.
Sunday March 19, 2006 at 8:30 AM Opening Session started with President Sharon McNamara, R.N., M.S., CNOR entering Ballroom D to the song, "Everybody Dance Now". As your chapter president, I walked proudly down the aisle ready to represent each of you in the coming days. The procession of AORN leaders included Board members, Nominating Committee, past Presidents, Golden Gavel members, National Committee and task force chairs, and specialty assembly chairs. It was nice to see Opening Session have a break in tradition and have all members who were military currently serving or those who had previously served in the armed services walk down the aisle as part of the opening ceremony processional.
Our chapter had six delegates and one alternate to represent us. As the chair, I was pleased with how responsible each of these members were as we entered into a very busy week. Completes actions taken at the House of Delegates, as well as other Congress activities will be published in the Post Congress issue of the AORN Journal, June 2006. At 4:30, March 23rd, we all gathered in Hall D to hear Traci Lynn, PhD, present "Change Your Attitude- Change Your Life". Closing Session followed immediately after Dr. Lynn's session and was a memorable event.
It has been a pleasure for me to have a chance to serve as your President this past year, and I look forward to the coming year bringing us back our old members and hopefully some new ones also. Remember, your support keeps our chapter strong, and a professional organization is part of what makes us a PROFESSION! Every patient we care for deserves and is entitled to a Registered Perioperative Nurse.
Respectfully,
Your President, Bruce E. Miller, RN, SN IV
