JANUARY, 2002

January 4, 2002 - Things did change yesterday afternoon. Dad called to see if I could keep the children for several hours. He had developed a rash on his leg that itched like everything. A call to his doctor and he was told to come on up the mountain to see what was causing the rash. I told him to stop by and let them stay with me. He wanted NascarKid to ride with him, but in the end he stayed here as well. While he was out, Dad was also going to have supper with his brothers. One of them is down from Buffalo where they got home just in time for all the recent snow records from another trip before heading down to warmer climate. Warmer!! Not hardly. Seems right now all the really cold stuff is here around us. Perhaps they brought it with them from New York ...

New York City called me today. Tbird wanted to contact her sister. So far they haven’t been able to get together. I seem to be the go-between here in North Carolina for two sisters that have under an hour’s drive between them. Thanks to the Internet that is possible this day and age. It’s just that Tbird doesn’t have access to a computer at this time.

The boys are with me today while Dad works. Giggles is in daycare. Dad does call to see if I can meet him at our regular exchange point at the hospital. He will take NascarKid to his guitar lesson in Hickory and take care of the rest of the day’s events.

Seems a very important event skipped my mind today. Most people would be excited and on edge waiting for the big event - but not moi. A knock came to the door and one of the boys answered. They were caught off guard because the workmen asked about Mother. The cable is listed in her name since she originally signed up for it while she lived here with me. When she had to be moved to the nursing center, I was told that I should just leave everything as it is or I would have to go through all the down payment deal of a new subscriber even though it was already installed just have a name change. Here the men were to change over my computer to the Pipeline where I would no longer have to go through a provider such as I’ve had with such slow speed. I would no longer have to worry about being booted off line while working either because I’m always on line. I just have to remember to switch to standby or turn off the computer. What a difference a short time of work can make.

While here, them also upgraded my cable service and installed a BOX. The BOX is not something I’m used to dealing with. There’s lots for me to learn with using a BOX. One worker explained the use of the remote to NascarKid - not me. Later after the boys were gone, I realized how much I didn’t know about a BOX, but not to worry. There’s plenty of time later for that. In fact, when NascarKid found that I now have 42 music stations that do nothing but play music all the time, He forgot about television and spent his remaining time with the music. It’s merely a black BOX that shows the time or station; how hard can that be to use?

My main interest now is to think about going through the necessary places through out Cyberspace and change my addy. I know I don’t know all the passwords or even names used. I’m not a consistence type person when it comes to things of that sort. One would have a problem following me around with the different titles I work with. It all depends on the mood at the time. I do know that all are not identical. Thus, I’ve attempted to keep a printout of each new password site. I even started a book with them listed for safe keeping. I’m sure somewhere along the way I have lain some aside with thoughts of adding them to the book later - - Later never came. On the good side, I should lose some of the gook that comes my way with junkmail and other unfavorable stuff mixed in with the good things. Wish only the mail I wish to hear from could be all that I would receive....

January 5, 2002 - It’s a lazy day for me. I laze around for most of the day. There were good intentions which never got carried out. Prainy would bet describe the day. Each and every bone, muscle and joint has a different tune of pain to sing today. It would probably have something to do with the two low fronts moving in to this area.

I tried the cable BOX. That little black BOX didn’t want to work for me. I was able to pick up only the station the boys watched yesterday. Not to worry. I’m not all that interested in it today anyway. Other things need to be attended. I have a party to attend and need a present and card to take with me.

Buddy Boy’s birthday party is at five in the Resource Center Playroom and dining area. By the time I leave the house, I barely have a half hour to spend with Mother before heading into town. Allan has called and asked me to pick up some popcorn chicken and bring along with me. That will take a little extra time and I need to stop by the drugstore to pick up some prescriptions. The weather is supposed to be bad and I don’t want to run out of pills.

Mother’s in bed and cantankerous today. She is definitely not a happy camper and lets me know at every turn or word I utter. It’s good that I have a reason to leave under the circumstances.

The insurance company has gone up on some of my medicines at the first of this new year. Only three prescriptions to get and the cost is over a $100. Between my medicine and Mother’s medicine, my pocketbook is getting leaner and leaner. Oh, I know that some would say, “Look, you just got more cable and changed your Internet service. How much did that set you back?” Truth is, it is saving me money. I signed on when there was a special which means I got the equipment free of charge. The monthly charge is less for better usage and by dropping a phone line, I am saving even more. The saving of money overall was the main reason I changed. I could have stuck with the present company if the rates had been lower and there was not the other phone line in use.

The party was already starting when I arrived. The room was like about eight kindergarten rooms combined with every type of toy imaginable available for the kids to use. It would be the envy of any kindergarten teacher to have something like this to use. We probably had about a dozen or so children there and they kept the area busy as they darted from one activity to another. This was a party that all enjoyed until time to move into the dining area for hot-dogs, beans, chicken and all the other goodies before cutting the cake.

The cake was the image of Scooby Do and all the decorations, including hats and paper horn blowers were there for the children and adults to indulge in. Buddy Boy even got a Scooby blanket which Giggles immediately announced to me she wanted one like it as soon as she saw it. All gifts, but one were opened and then it was time to go back into the play area to see that final gift. Mom and Dad bought him a rocking horse! He had shown an interest in one earlier and they thought it might help him work out some of his extra energy in the evenings. All the smaller kids had to take turns riding on it. Several of them were too small to make it bounce or move and had to have some help from the back of the horse (unseen by the rider.)
