Bruce's Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Story

Thursday, April 01, 2004

Bruce saw the other lymphoma specialist yesterday and we both really liked her. She didn't seem to feel that now was the time for Bruce to have a bone marrow transplant, although she did suggest that we see a bone marrow transplant specialist elsewhere to get his opinion. We also discussed many promising treatment options that are on the horizon, none of which Bruce qualifies for at the moment.

Bruce has an appointment with another specialist next Friday, April 9th. I guess no one can accuse us of not getting a 2nd opinion before deciding on a treatment plan! :)

I just realized that I never posted an update after Bruce saw the third lymphoma specialist. Sorry about that!

The third 2nd opinion specialist was against Bruce having a bone marrow transplant at this time, and he even questioned whether ANY treatment was necessary yet. Apparently, after having Bexxar, the next relapse can be with a small spot of localized, very indolent NHL, and that appears to be the case with Bruce. Although Bruce's 2nd tumor came up quickly after the first one was removed, it's just been sitting there for the past few months, not doing much of anything.

After getting three 2nd opinions, giving it a great deal of thought, praying hard, and discussing everything with his onc last Monday, Bruce's decision is to hold off on having any treatment. Hopefully, he'll be able to stay in Watch & Wait for a LONG time!
