May 2005 Update
Bruce's Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Story

Saturday, May 07, 2005
Bruce had an appointment with the nephrologist on April 26th. The doctor was extremely pleased with Bruce's blood counts from April 21st! He wanted Bruce to finish the Prednisone, and then do another 24 hour urine and have more blood work done. Bruce's last day on the Prednisone was this past Thursday...he has an appointment to see the nephrologist again on June 7th.

Yesterday (May 6th), the tumor on the back of Bruce's shoulder reappeared. And today, Bruce had difficulty urinating for the first time since this whole kidney scare started. He's also having pain in the area of his right kidney. The roller coaster ride continues.

Despite antibiotics, the pain Bruce was having and the difficulty he had in urinating, continued to get worse. So, yesterday the nephrologist had Bruce go to the ER to be catheterized. He came home with the catheter still in place. Today, he's waiting to find out what the urologist (a new one) wants him to do next. An infection has been ruled out as the cause of his current problems.

There isn't much to report on Bruce yet, just that he still has the catheter. He's hoping he won't have to go through the week-end with it in!

Poor Bruce, he DID end up having to go through the week-end with the Foley catheter in. He got permission to remove it this morning though (yes, HE had to remove it!). Next week he'll be seeing the new urologist and he'll be having more tests done. If he has any more problems before then, he has to call the urologist.

The new urologist got copies of the reports on all the scans Bruce has had done recently, and he even went to the hospital to look at the scans in person. Interestingly, he discovered that Bruce has an extremely enlarged prostate. This is something no one has mentioned before! Hmmm.

There's nothing new to report about Bruce yet, but I'd like to share a web site address with you. Jess is an amazing young woman that Bruce & I had the privilege to become friends with when she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2000. I hope you'll visit her web site, and I hope you will also consider supporting her ride for lymphoma research. http://www.active.com/donate/tntsvmb/jadensmama

Bruce did a 24 hour urine & dropped that off today. He also had blood work done today, and he had an appointment with the new urologist. Apparently there was a misunderstanding when Bruce talked to his nurse the last time...Bruce does NOT have an enlarged prostate. On the contrary, his prostate is small and compact, as it should be. Bruce also had an ultrasound done to see how much urine his bladder retains. Everything looked good and the urologist doesn't know why Bruce had problems before.

Next week, Bruce will be having another urine test done and more blood work done, and June 7th he has an appointment with the nephrologist.
