Asthma
Asthma cases have doubled over the past 15 years, with more and more people worrying whether their next breath will come easy. In fact, there are now 15 million Americans who suffer from this debilitating disease.(2003)
May is Asthma Awareness Month, time to spread more information about the disease.
During an asthma attack, the muscles around the airways tighten, other symptoms include prolonged coughing spells, you feel like you can't catch your breath, sometimes you feel like air is trapped in your lungs and you can't get it out, often you have pain in your chest, and of course very noisy breathing. Any or all of these can set up a stress response that can throw you deeper into an attack.
A stressful health situation can be it's own trigger at times, making you feel like a victim. Be proactive and use those symptoms to warn you that it is time to help yourself.
Self-hypnosis can help you relieve the tension in the muscles surrounding your rib cage and your lungs. Relaxation techniques can be triggered and if used often enough be used with little or no thought. Like signing your name or tying your shoes, you have done these so often you no longer need to think about them.
In the UK studies have shown that asthma may also be triggered emotionally. Finding your emotional triggers and releasing them, or turning them off, can lead to a happier sense of well-being as well and one more way to take back you power!
Can we help replace your triggers?
