Reiki is a Japanese form of healing touch and energy transfer. There are many "schools" of thought cropping up as time goes by. I learned the Usui method in the early 1990's. Since then I have used it on everything including family, friends, pets, livestock and even the car. The energy can be felt, coming from the practitioner's hands as warmth, coolness or a tingle. The transfer depends on the need at the time. The amount is also controlled by the patient. If there is fear of what is happening then there will be no transfer as the system will not allow it to take place.
Reiki works on various levels: physical, emotional and spiritual. The practitioner does not direct the healing as the client's system knows best where and how much healing is needed. The practitioner can be viewed as a wall outlet. The client plugs in whichever appliance they want working . . . mixer, toaster, coffee pot. The energy taken is the amount needed to do the work at hand. As long as the client requires the energy, it will flow.
There are several ways Reiki is used . . . .
Spot treatments help to relieve stress and pain. Similar to a band-aid, or stop gap treatment. It works excellently well to level off emotional upheaval during counseling sessions. This aids in faster healing of breaks and sprains. Similar to the electrical impulses used by sports trainers to quicken the healing of sprains in a professional setting. No need to be careful about dials or amounts delivered with Reiki though.
A Total Reiki Massage takes about an hour and a half. This involves covering each and every joint and major organ for about 3 to 5 minutes to allow the transfer directly. This is very soothing and can lull you to sleep.
Distance Reiki is done like the spot treatment. We use a focal point: a picture, an address, a name . . . anything to distinguish you from the rest of the world at the moment. Then we focus and send a glowing ball of energy to you, to be used as you see fit. Think of it as a healing blanket, hug, or band-aid of white, loving, light. Blankets are big, hugs are medium and band-aids are small. Usually a test is done prior to scheduling a treatment to make sure the client is willing to allow the energy through. Reiki is totally harmless, non-invasive and entirely client controlled.
