Neuron - Types
There are several types of neurons which propagate the nerve impulse throughout the CNS (Gertz).
Each of these neurons can connect to several or even hundreds of other neurons. The axon may synapse with multiple dendrites, and the dendrites of one cell can receive multiple impulses from the axons of many neurons. The pictured idea that a single neuron is connected to another single neuron is in reality artistic license for clarity. But in reality, every nerve consists of many bundles of neurons called fascicles. Each of these fascicles are made up of hundreds and hundreds of individual neurons. Neurons are only a building block to a complex and vital system (Gertz).
