Books That I Like and You Might Too
An Unquiet Mind by Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison
(click on the book for more info and how to buy)
I just can't say enough about this book. It is the BEST thing I ever read about bipolar disorder and a personal journey. It is so honest, and it was a bold thing for the author to do, considering she is a Professor of Psychology.
We Heard the Angels of Madness: A Family Guide to Coping With Manic Depression
By Diane Berger, et al
Emotional Blackmail: When The People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation, and Guilt to Manipulate You By Susan Forward et al
(click on the book for more info and ordering info)
Having trouble because you ALWAYS say yes? Are you being "black-mailed" by those around you? This might be a good choice for you.
Toxic Parents - Overcoming Their Hurtful Legacy and Reclaiming Your Life
Also by Dr. Susan Forward
(click on book for more info and ordering info)
This was also a GREAT book for me. It covers every kind of "bad" parent, helps you understand where they were coming from, how it affected you and your current feelings and possible problems - a real eye-opener!
Feeling Good : The New Mood Therapy by David D. Burns, MD
(Click on book for more info and how to order)
A cognitive approach in a self-help book. Dr. Burns explains how to make the connection between your feelings and thoughts. I own the book, but personally my concentration has been so bad that I have not been able to read it.
The Feeling Good Handbook by David D. Burns, MD
(for more info or to order, click on book)
You've got it, the follow up to the book above, it's an actual workbook where you can apply the theory to yourself. It looks very good. I own it and I haven't really touched it except to browse through it. It tells you to do what my current therapist is advocating.
I really think it can work for most people and is a good buy.
