Updates To The Social Security Outlook Since 1999 |
The changes of most interest are indicated in CAPITALS or italics or BOTH.
This site is new, so there are very few revisions yet. This page is here anyway just so that you know of my philosophy of keeping you informed of any substantive changes, and of using this page to do so.
* fb-51.html (Quotes page) - 4/25/99
* Added Dan Crippen (CBO Director) 2/23/99 Testimony
* fb-55, fb-56, and fb-57.html pages added - 6/22/99
* These pages discuss the question, "The Social Security Trustees Are Using Pessimistic Demographic and Economic Assumptions?". It has much discussion of fertility, life expectancy, immigration rates, productivity, workers - to - beneficiaries ratio, and real GDP.Note: on 9/16/99, these pages were renamed fb-80, fb-81, and fb-82.html. I don't plan on renaming any pages in the future, but because on 9/16/99 a huge additional number of pages were uploaded, it was decided to have page numbers be in numerical order, for now.
* fb-index.html page changed to reflect addition of above pages - 6/22/99
* Innumerable pages added 9/16/99
Many months of work uploaded. The pages that were up here before now have not significantly changed in content -- fb-index, fb-7, fb-8, fb-9, fb-55 (now fb-80), fb-56 (now fb-81), fb-57 (now fb-82), fb-50, fb-51, fb-52. Although they have been improved as far as additional navigation links, and all of their sections have been given new "non-numbers". EXCEPTION: fb-index.html did have a significant change in content -- it's Introduction section was rewritten.The new pages that were uploaded on 9/16/99 for the first time are fb-index2, fb-index3, fb-20, 21, and 22; fb-30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35; fb-60, 61, 62, 63; fb-66; fb-70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76; and fb-90. See the Index Of All Web Pages (non1) for general information on what the topics covered by these web pages are. In particular, the web site now has a short Introduction (fb-index.html), a complete Introduction / Summary (fb-20, fb-21, fb-22), and the main report fb-30, fb-31, fb-32, fb-33, fb-34, and fb-35). Then there is much additional material in the appendices.
* fb-index changes 10/4/99
* I mention that the Social Security Trust Fund balance ($730 Billion) is part of the $5.5 Trillion national debt. And that all trust fund balances - $1.76 Trillion combined, are part of the $5.5 Trillion national debt. (Figures are for Sept 30, 1998 - end of FY 1998).
* I withdrawal my promise to combine this web-site into 2 large files. But I am still gladly willing to email the web-site as the 37 files that you see. Email me at jalars@compuserve.com and specify if you want them Zipped or not.
* Emphasized looking at the Table of Contents as a good way to get an overview about what the web site is about.
* Quotes From Liberals Who Also Agree That The Trust Fund Is Not A Savings Plan added 7/2/01 fb-51.html section non257
* 2001 Trustees Summary - Excerpt Expressing Concern About The Drain On General Revenues Required To Redeem The Trust Fund Bonds added 7/2/01 fb-50.html section non256
* Correspondence With AARP Regarding Their "Social Security Is Solvent For Decades" Viewpoint added 7/2/01 fb-91.html section non259.
This is a great example of how supporters of the current Social Security system will go to great lengths to deny that the Social Security Trust Fund is a liability on future general taxpayers.
* UPDATES PAGE ADDED ( FB-UPDATES-1.HTML ) 7/2/01 to update the page to the most recent numbers.
