*****************************************************************

I wrote the following as an assignment for my Nutritional Consultants course, in which we had to explain an alternate therapy. There wasn't much contest as to what I would write about :0), but I did have some difficulty tying it in to nutrition. By the time I was finished, I had a better understanding of one theory of the *possible* mechanics and could see how easily it really does enhance any *wellness program*. Don't leave home without it! Please e me with any comments or suggestions. I'd love to hear them.

Reiki, A Bit About..

Reiki is a form of touch therapy rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the late 1800’s. It translates from the Japanese dictionary as

**********************

Rei – to honour and give respect

Ki – Life Force Energy

**********************

A Reiki practitioner is able to become a channel for this subtle nutritive energy that breathes life into every living thing through a simple process called an attunement.(also called chi, qi, prana etc. according to various cultures)

How Does It Work?

Some believe that we possess not only a physical body, but a series of subtle bodies, each having their own vibrational frequency.

In his book "Vibrational Medicine", Richard Gerber, M.D. helps us to comprehend this concept..

"All matter, both physical and subtle, has frequency. Matter of different frequencies can coexist in the same space, just as energies of different frequencies (ie. Radio and TV) can exist nondestructively in the same space."

The subtle energy system, which is composed of the subtle bodies, interact with the physical through specific channel systems.

The basic hand positions of a full Reiki treatment generally correspond with the Chakra system. The Chakras are specialized energy centers. They act as transformers, stepping down the vibrational frequency of subtle energies as they descend through the subtle energy system, converting them ultimately into hormonal, nerve and cellular activity in the physical body. The Nadis are energetic threads which connect the Chakra’s to each other and respective areas of the physical body, such as the endocrine and nervous systems.

It is said that disease can originate in the subtle energy system through blockages and disturbances starting at any point from the Causal/Spiritual, Mental, Astral/Emotional or Etheric Double and filtering down to the Physical body.

Reiki and Nutrition

This is where Reiki comes in. It works on every level, to bring balance and free blockages so that the nutritive subtle energy can flow unrestricted where needed. Anyone interested in a truly holistic approach to "Vibrant Health" could find the benefits of Reiki to be an easy and logical addition to the things we must do to stay healthy, such as sound nutritional practices, exercise, proper rest and relaxation.

On a practical note, Reiki is commonly recognized as a relaxation tool and some believe that sending Reiki to food and water can increase it’s health giving benefits and absorption.

Strengths

One of the unique things about this healing module is that any person is able to undergo the attunement process. This gives all the ability to use Reiki to help themselves and their loved ones to better health. No tools are needed and it is with us for life.

A Reiki treatment can be said to be very relaxing and therefore can be a very effective pain reliever. But often the results that we get from a Reiki treatment are not what we expect. As it works on our deeper levels, it can hold some surprises in the healing process.

To give an example, a person coming in to facilitate healing of an ulcer may find themselves instead becoming stronger and better able to identify and deal with unwanted stress and ongoing issues in their lives, through healing on the emotional subtle body. This relieves irritation to the ulcer and combined with dietary recommendations and specific vitamin and herbal supplements, one could find themselves well on their way to a complete recovery, with a reduced chance of reoccurrence.

Limitations

Some question the validity of this healing module because it has not been scientifically proven and accepted by mainstream medicine, although many have seen life altering results.

Some have religious beliefs that question not the fact that it works, but the source of the healing power and are not comfortable with the idea that many see changes in their spiritual connection after working with Reiki.

Due to the various paths that Reiki can take in helping us in our healing adventure, it can be unpredictable and the effects may not always be obvious. Sometimes a little faith and patience are needed. It is not always an instant fix, a miraculous cure nor guaranteed to work in the way we may wish it to, indeed, it is often used to help those who are terminally ill to pass on in peace.

As a Reiki practitioner myself, I can say that although the exact mechanism’s as to how it works are not visible to the human eye, I have seen this healing process have a very positive effect on myself and members of my family. I would recommend it to anyone aspiring to enhance their present approach to optimal wellness.

This is the book I used for a lot of the basic research in the above article. One of the better books I've read on the subject of the inner workings of energy healing. Very detailed but understandable. This article didn't cover a fraction of what you'll find. Fascinating reading. I'd highly recommend it.

This is his next tape. I haven't heard it but it is next on my list!

*A Guide to Energy Healing and Spiritual Transformation* You can order now, but this one is brand spanking new and won't be out until April. Another one on my *to get* list.

I read this book a few years ago and didn't get anywhere near as much out of it then as I have since I discovered Reiki. I could really identify with a lot of the parts about energy and the nature of reality. If your tired of textbooks, this one is in story form, very easy, but eye opening read. I wonder if James does Reiki? Maybe he should!

*The Celestine Prophecy* is also available on tape.

*The Experiential Guide* goes a little more in depth about the concepts and contains outlines for conducting a study group.

If you liked *The Celestine Prophecy*, you'll probably want to read this one. It's also on my list *to get*
