The TKE Challenge began simply enough in 1995 as a means of strengthening realtions between the 15 TKE chapters in the State of New Jersey. Originally a project to benefit the Special Olympics, TKE's National Philanthropy, it succeeded. The 1995 TKE Challenge went on to win the Special Olympics Award of Merit from the Grand Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity at the TKE Regional Leadership Conference in February of 1996.
The Rutgers Newark chapter realized it had a really good thing going...and could use that to help some of their neighbors in the 1996 TKE Challenge for Pediatric AIDS.
