Eggnog

This recipe was taken from the book Better Homes & Gardens New Cook Book.

Ingredients:

12 beaten eggs
4 cups milk
2/3 cups sugar
8 Tblsp light rum
8 Tblsp bourbon
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups whipping cream
4 Tblsp sugar
ground nutmeg

In a large heavy saucepan, mix the eggs, milk and 2/3 cup sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat till the mixture coats a metal spoon. Remove from the heat and quickly cool, by placing the pan in a sink or bowl of ice water and continue stirring for 1 - 2 minutes. Stir in the rum, bourbon and vanilla. Chill for 4 - 24 hours.

At serving time, whip the cream and four tablespoons of sugar until soft peaks form. Transfer the chilled egg mixture to a punch bowl and fold in the whipped cream mixture. Serve at once, sprinkling each serving with nutmeg.
