Malay cooking is normally hot (spicy to American), spicy and use a lot of coconut milk.

 
Seri Melayu
Probably the best Malay restaurant in town with a grand setting. Their buffet has a large selection (e.g. satay, durian bubur, roti canai, rendang, rojak, etc). As majority of their patrons are foreigners, their food is tuned down, not spicy or hot for foreigners. They have a 45 minutes cultural dance which start at 2045 hours, is idea for entertaining foreign guests.

Nasi Lemak, Tanglin Hospital.
May be the best nasi lemak in town, certainly a very popular place for breakfast.

Sup 88, Taman Selayang Baru.
This stall's mee sup is one of the best around; the soup base is beef, sweet n tasty. During weekend, they can sell two drums, one drum is easily 200 liter of soup.

Coffee House, Hotel Equatorial.
Their local buffet lunch and dinner have good selection and taste.

Ole Sayang, Melacca.
This restaurant is one the best place to have Nyonya food. We love their Capitan chicken, sambal shrimps and assam fish.

House of Sundanese Food, KLCC
The Sundanese (West Jawa, not Africa) specialities in town, we tried bar-b-que fish, chicken curry and fried taupok, and find the food good. Reservation is recommended for lunch hour.

Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan E&O
This restaurant is over 15 years old and is popular with its fish head curry (from RM18).

Seri Angkasa, KL Tower
This revolving restaurant is located at KL Tower Head about 250m above ground. Speed of revolution is about 1 cycle per hour. Although this restaurant is managed by Seri Melayu, they serve buffet (local and western) and western a la carte. We tried the buffet dinner which include fresh olyster, smoked salmon, cold cut, soups, rojak, satay, roast, curries, desserts, coffee, etc. As food is not the major attraction to this place, we recommend this place for entertaining foreign visitors. Reservation is recommended and entrance ticket is included in the meal.

Selera Coffee House, Pan Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The buffet lunch at this restaurant is mainly Malay dishes. The appetizer is limited to salad, soup (which is tasteless) and a dozen shrimps and mussels. Main course include roast beef (a bit dry), curry, etc. There are about a dozen cakes and local fruits for desserts. Overall, we find the food is below expectation and over priced.

The Malay foods serve at their banquet dinner is unappealing and sub-standard.

Restoran Mui Fong, Kota Bahru, Kelantan.
The Malay stall at this coffee shop serve an excellent fried chicken (RM3/pc), fried ox lung, ikan bilis sambal, etc. During our last visit, each one of us had at least three pieces of fried chicken and one of our friend's record is thirteen (13) pieces in one lunch! During lunch hour, queue for take away can be ten persons deep.

Selera Sri Tambang, Sg Dua, Penang.
This stall is well known for its big prawn soup noodle. Unlike other places, over here, prawns are sold by weight eg fresh water prawn and seawater prawn (8/10pc to kg size) at RM45/kg and RM70/kg respectively. The soup is the same stock they use to cook prawns; with so much essence, the soup is thick and very sweet and sensational.

Roti Chanai At Jalan Transfer, Penang.
This stall roti chanai is very popular with the locals and their gravy is excellent.

Sari Alai Ikan Bakar, Kg Alai, Melaka
This stall is located in a small fishing village, quite popular with tourists during weekend and holiday. We find their grilled fish fresh, moist and good.
