Shook Restaurant at Starhill
A fusion restaurant that serve Grill, Japanese, Italian and Chinese fare. The
open concept of the restaurant organized the kitchens in counters. Patrons can
order appetizer and dessert from any counters but is directed to seat at
respective area of the main course. As we had something before our visit, we
skipped the appetizer and went straight to main course. From the italian
counter, we had lamb shank and steak for the main course, sake brulee and
tiramisu for dessert. We find the food excellent but pricy.
Food Quality:
Location: Starhill, Jln Bukit Bintang

Price from RM80 per person.
| Little Penang Cafe, Mid Valley Mall
As the name implied, this cafe is specialised in Penang hawkers food; we
have tried their fried koay teow, prawn mee, assam laksa, cendol and ice
kacang. we find the fried koay teow, assam laksa and cendol better than most
places in KL ie similar to those in Penang.
Food Quality:
Location: F100, 1st floor, Mid Valley Mall.
Phone: 2282-0215
Open for lunch and dinner.
Price from RM12 per person.
| Citrus Restaurant
This restaurant serve Asian food (i.e. Japanese, Chinese and Thai) food with
style and is an alternative to hotel coffee house. We have tried their
chilli rolls, poh piah with roast duck for starter, fried koay teow, pad
Thai (Thai style dried rice noodle), beef soup noodle, roasted duck, chicken
rice, udon and tirasimu. We find their beef fried koay teow (at RM14) which
use Australian beef is excellent. The roasted duck is made from imported
duck at RM26/portion, but we find the taste below our high expectation. The
last time we visited in October 98, we believe they have replaced the
chinese chef.

Location: Opposite Hotel Equatorial, Jalan Sultan Ismail.

Price from RM20 per person.
| Hard
Rock Cafe, Kuala Lumpur.
An American style themed family restaurant with large portion serving and
friendly servers. The new menu commenced 1st. October 97 with a revised
price (increased of course) is similar to HRC Orlando's. As the result, they
are excluding our favourite 'fish and chips', 'lemon and lime chicken', and
'mud pie' from the regular menu; leaving TGI with monopoly on 'mud pie'.
However, 'fish and chips' will be available from time to time as 'Catch of
the day'. We love their ribs, barbeque chicken, fajitas, cajun fish, lemon
and lime chicken, and we believe they served the best fish and chips in
town. Their 12oz New York strip steak is only so so, not tender and juicy
enough. We have yet to try their new dessrts 'Rain forest nut crunch
sundae'. We like their kids' menu and we believe all restaurants for family
should have one.
Food Quality: 1/2.
Location: Concorde Hotel, Jalan Sultan Ismail.
Open for lunch, dinner and supper.
Price from RM40 per person.
| TGI Friday.
Another American style themed family restaurant with wide range of Southern
(Texan, Mexican and Cajun) selection, and we find their 'Jack Daniel' range
interesting. We have tried most of the main course, we find their dishes
pretty consistent and we never go without our favourite mud pie. Although,
officially they don't have kid's menu in writing, but they can offer a kid's
menu namely fish finger, chicken finger, hot dog and spaghetti.
On one occasion, when we visited the Subang Parade store, they run out of
our favourite mud pie and they offered to send from Section 14 store. An
action well praised.
Food Quality: 1/2.
Location: Life center, Jalan Sultan Ismail; Section 14, Petaling Jaya and
Subang Parade.
Phone: 03-263-7761.
Open for lunch, dinner and supper.

| Di-Atas Brasserie, The Legend Hotel.
This restaurant is well known for its wide selection for its buffet. Their
high tea's appetizers are typically salads and sandwiches. Main course
include crabs, curry fish, fried chicken, yong tau foo, etc. For desserts,
they have ice creams, cakes, ice kacang, pan cakes, nyonya kuih, etc. If the
price is lower will made the high tea value for money.
We revisit this restaurant for 'buka puasa' buffet; again their buffet's
selection is large. Typically local and Thai dishes.
Food Quality:
Location: The Legend Hotel at the Mall.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Price from RM32 per person.
| Marriot Cafe.
We visited this place for a Sunday afternoon high tea. Decor at this place
is elegant and all their staffs uniform are in black and white. Either by
training or culture, we find the servers persistent. The Asian high tea
include about a dozen appetizer (salads, smoked salmon, sushi, etc), local
main course (fried mee, dimsum, curry, etc), roasted chicken at the carvary.
local fruits with strawberry and about a dozen desserts. Due to their food
warmer or setting, we find quite a few dishes dried out.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Price from RM33 per person.
| Coffee Garden, Shangri-la Hotel.
We went there for a Sunday afternoon high tea. The appetizers are typically
salads and sandwiches. Main course are locals e.g. steamed fish, roasted
duck, dimsum, fried rice, grilled fish, etc. For desserts, they have ice
creams, cakes, ice kacang, pan cakes and nyonya kuih. As a whole, we find
their price over value is greater than one.

Price from RM32 per person.
| Tempts Restaurant, New World Hotel.
This hotel cafe specialised in local foods eg roti canai, tandori chicken,
rojak, sushi, etc. In addition, self picking stir fried vegetables is
available. Their dessert is similar to Vogue cafe of Renaissance and not to
miss the tiramisu. However, for the food selections, we find the dinner
price of Rm49 per head is expensive.

Location: Ground floor, New World Hotel, Jalan Ampang.
Phone: 263-6888
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Price from RM45 per person.
| The Verandah, Federal Hotel.
A coffee house specialized in local foods. Hi-tea is available during

short handed and lax in table setting.

| Cafe Serena, Hotel Nikko.
We find foods at this place below expectation and has limited election for
buffet lunch.
We revisit this place for a 'Buka Puasa' buffet in Jan 1999; although the
range is not as wide as other hotel but the quality is fairy consistent. We
find the satay excellent i.e. tender and well marinated. Once again, we find
them pricey.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

| Melting Pot Cafe, Concorde Hotel, Jalan Sultan Ismail

than average but the selection is limited to local dishes. This coffee house
was a popular hang out at one time but servers' aptitude is less than
desire.

| | Sun & Surf Cafe.
We tried their buffet dinner which has a wide local and western selections.
Appetizer include fresh olyster, smoked salmon, two soups, etc. For main
course they have local foods, carving and tandori. The desserts selection is
probably the largest around (about one and half dozen cakes, fruits and ice
creams) and coffee is included in the buffet price. Reservation is
recommended for weekend.

This coffee house serve a fair range (nasi lemak, yong tau foo, beef
goulash, a soup, soup mee, fruits rojak, fried nuggets, stew sausages, fried
mee, fried rice, cold cut, green salad, breads and desserts) and consistent
local high tea; however, we find the variety has been unchanged for the last
few years, so it is getting a bit boring. Some how, high tea during weekdays
is even more boring. Reservation is recommended for weekend and public
holiday.
