Cream peanut butter and shortening together. Add sugar and egg. Sift flour and soda. Mix well. It will be a dry, almost crumbly dough. Place on cookie sheet in 1 teaspoon balls and press with the tines of a fork in a criss cross pattern. I usually double this recipe.
