During his service he married Jean Ozuch on May 22, 1954. Upon returning to Michigan, John continued his education at Henry Ford Community College, Eastern Michigan and the University of Michigan, and he resumed his employment at A&P until 1959 when he began his teaching career for Redford Union Schools. His education career would span 30 years as both a teacher and administrator. He retired in June 1988. Besides Detroit, he has lived in Key West, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Livonia, Brooklyn (Mich.) and Howell. John and Jean had three children -- Elaine, James, and Susan.
