I have traced the Mack family back to 1832. I know little about them. Alice Mack was supposed to be a wonderful cook who could make a dinner out of "flour and water". She was known for her "floating island" dessert--a recipe which is lost in time. Here is the info I have gathered on the family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Mack, pioneer resident of this place, aged 75 years, were held Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Yatsie, under the direction of Funeral Director F. D. Sweet. Rev. H. F. Doran of the local Methodist Church officiated and interment was made at the Fairfield cemetery. Mrs. Mack resided on Empire street here for many years and was well known throughout this section where she had a host of friends. She was one of the early pioneers, crossing the plains from Illinois when the country was new. Her husband preceded her in death a year ago. Mrs. Mack passed away peacefully last Saturday afternoon a six o'clock after an illness of one week. She was the mother of thirteen children, ten of whom are living, all being at the funeral except Mrs. Carl Howard of Caspar, who is ill. Her children are, Mrs. Chas. Yatsie, Mrs. Jack DuBois [DeBoyce], Richard Mack and John Mack, all of Fairfield; Mrs. Ed Connolly of Chico, Mrs. Clem Ebeling of Modesto, Mrs. Carl Howard of Caspar, Mrs. Will Ebeling of Napa, Clarence Mack of Modesto, Claude Mack of San Jose. Besides her immediate family Mrs. Mack leaves behind 27 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The funeral was attended by a great many admirers of the aged lady and the many floral offerings were tokens of the love and respect in which she was held by all who knew her. Mrs. H. F. Doran sang two beautiful hymns at the rites. The pallbearers were: Chas. Yat- sie, Howard Connolly, Jack DuBois [DeBoyce], William Ebeling, and Chas. Wilkins, all son-in-laws of the deceased, except Mr. Wilkins, a nephew.--From The Solano County Republican Vol. 71 No. 40
