Baked Pretzels submitted by ansondale
(makes 12 - dough can be prepared in 1 1/2 and 2 pound machines)
Dough:
- 3/4 cup water (70 to 80 degrees F/21 to 27 degrees celcius)
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
Topping:
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- coarse salt, sesame seed or poppy seed or grated paresan cheese
Measure all dough ingredients into bread machine pan in the order suggested by manufacturer. Process on dough cycle.
When cycle is complete, remove dough to floured surface. If necessary, knead in additional flour to make dough easy to handle. Divide into 12 pieces; roll each to 16-inch rope. On greased baking sheets, curve each to forme a circle, crossing ends over at the top. Twist ends once; bring crossed ends over bottom of circle.
Lightly beat together egg and water; brush on pretzels. Sprinkle with coarse salt or other toppings.Bake at 350 F (180C) for 18-20 minutes or until done, switching positions of pans halfway thru baking. Serve Warm.
NOTE: These pretzels are kinda yucky by the second day so you must eat them all up the first day
