"Double J" Jeff Jarrett vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart vs. "The Blizzard" Adrien Blades

Date: April 15, 1997

Card: Tuesday Night Titans

Site: The Europahalle; Kalsruhe, Germany

This was one of the more controversial matches I've wrestled. And it came about for a few reasons. I'd wanted a match with Bret for a while... the Blizzard and I were always at odds... and Blizzard had been challenging Bret for as long as I could remember.

This was the first Tuesday Night Titans, and I'd won the I/C title from Vader just one week earlier at Thursday Night Titans. Knowing that to win a Triangle Match you need to beat both opponents, I worked with the Blizzard against Bret. I mean c'mon... when it gets down to 2 people, who's gonna be easier for me to beat? Bret or the Blizzard? But this one was in Germany, where Bret's like a God, so it didn't make me too popular to be working against him.

And to complicate matters, the "old" Horsemen got involved in not only the match, but they attacked Bret earlier in the card, making it look as if I was in with them somehow. Despite that attack, Bret put on a good performance and eliminated the Blizzard with a sleeper hold.

But too much had been taken out of the Hitman, and I put him down for the count shortly afterwards. It wasn't the most popular win I've had, but a big one nonetheless. And anytime you can win the big match on a debut show is important, and this was the second week in a row that I'd done it!

Date: April 26, 1997

Card: WWF Superstars

Site: The Arena; Bakersfield, California

What a day this was! Not so much cause of the match... more due to the fact that this marked Elizabeth's first official appearance as my manager. You can check that out over in the Interviews section.

I'd been askin' for a match with Bret for months. He's one of the greatest of all time, and just puttin' on a good showing against him can do alot for you. But for whatever reason, the one-on-one match just wouldn't happen. Wanting to finally get it done, I started mouthin' off a bit... gettin' Bret worked up, and after the events of the Triangle Match this one was finally signed. A non-title match, since I'd recently won the I/C title.

He caught me with a small package and got the 3 count, but I feel good about my performance that day. I showed the world that I can hang with the best, and I even got Bret in the Figure Four. And given another chance, win or not, I think Bret and myself could put on one of the best matches in history.
