(Newton Center, January 16, 2004) He done done it. And done it nicely. Dennis Eckersley was elected to the Hall of Fame along with Paul Molitor on the first ballot. Not a surprise.
The Eck Says Farewell
(Boston, December 11, 1998) The last man to face Henry Aaron has decided to hang up his cletes. Dennis Eckersley bid a tearful farewell to the game he loved yesterday, and the Hall of Fame awaits his arrival.
"It's hard to walk away," said the Eck. "It's been a major part of my life since I was 8 years old." But with 1071 Major League games under his belt (more than anyone), he proudly walked away. His trophy case includes an MVP, a Cy Young, and numerous Fireman awards. He tossed a no-hitter in 1977, and ends his run with 390 career saves, the third highest total in baseball history.
