Ray and his wife Elma started dancing in 1972 and began calling in 1976, after attending Jack Lasry's Caller School in Harrisonburg, VA. Ray is an accrediated member of Callerlab, and serves on the Mainstream Quarterly Selection Committee. About 4 years ago he switched to the American Callers Association.
Ray is currently club caller for two square dance
clubs and teaches their beginning classes, as well as
plus workshops. Ray calls Mainstream and Plus and has
called many guest dances in New York, Pennsylvania,
Connecticut, Delaware, West Virginia, Vermont and
Arkansas. Ray and Elma have hosted square dance tours
to Hawaii and Alaska and cruises to the Caribbean,
Mexican Riviera and the Panama Canal. These continue today with another cruise to Alaska in 2005.
Ray started recording in September of 1986 with "I'll Hold You In My Arms" on Buckskin Records plus several more titles. In 1990 he moved to Rawhide Records, where he has recorded 6 more records.
The Taylors reside in East Guilford,NY. Ray retired from Amphonel Corp. after 33 years. They are also members of the Retread Motorcycle Club, and enjoy riding whenever the time and weather permits. They are members of the Southern Tier Garden Railway Society,and have a Garden Railroad in their backyard. Elma likes to do quilting and always has a project going.
