South East Texas 2/99 Flood Pictures

© by: bertha fae (rudisill) desormeaux

The following pictures were taken by me. There is an explantion below
each of them telling what they are. They were all taken on the Louisiana
side of the Sabine River.

This place was about 50 feet from the water's edge. The water
rose high enough that the trailer was almost completely submerged

This home is usually about 100 feet from the river's edge. If you look
closely, you will see a "watermark" on the wooden building. The water
was approximately 3 feet in it and about 1 1/2 feet inside the bus that
it is attached to.

In this one, the guy had built an outside cooking area onto his travel
trailer. The river went through it with such force that it actually carried
his belongings about 100 yards to the other side of the road. The only
thing that kept them from being swept clear into the next county was
the trees on the other side of the road.

This one was on the other side of the road from the river. It got about
6 feet of water on the inside. The people told me that the dog you see
laying in the driveway got on top of the small metal shed you can see
between the house and the garage to get out of the flood water.
