The following pictures were taken by me. There is an explantion below
each of them telling what they are. They were all taken on the Louisiana
side of the Sabine River.

The flood water had already gone down quite a bit by the time that we
were able to get to this area. BUT ~ we still had to go in by boat as the
road was still unpassable. These people told us that they only got about a foot
or so of water in their home. The big truck you see is what they call a
"marsh buggy" that they made themselves and was used at the start
of the flood to get some of the people out of the area to the shelters.
Believe it or not, these houses got about 4 to 5 feet of water inside them.
They are across the street from the houses in the previous pictures. The
reason they got so much water is because they are on lower ground
This is a mobile home that was "floated" off it's blocks. I was told by the
owners that they had gone to check on everything before the road had
become impassable. When they arrived the water was already deep
enough that it had caused the mobile home to shift. They got some of their
neighbors that were in the area checking on things to help them tie it to the
surrounding trees with ropes. Even after doing this, the flood water still
managed to "float it and move it off it's blocks".
This one survived without any damage to it as it is a "houseboat". The
owner said that all he had to do was to make sure that he had it tied up
real good to the trees so that it "wouldn't go floating down the river".
We were told by all the residents of the area that they really wouldn't
want to live anywhere else. That they truly love living on the river's
edge. They told us that in the summer time it is really a very pretty
place with all the trees and various wild flowers that grow out there.
Well, even with some of the trees being void of the leaves, I found it
to be a very peaceful place. This tree has some "steps" nailed to it and
being an "ole country gal/tomboy", I couldn't resist getting up on the
trunk of it to take a break and just look around. The lady that was with
me that day called to me and when I looked over to see what she wanted,
she snapped the above picture of me ~ Just A Sitting On The Tree" ~ :)
