City Of Hope Charity Softball Game |
The City Of Hope Charity Softball game takes place at Nashville's Greer Stadium on the eve of Fan Fair. Serious sports fans need not attend. The teams are comprised of Country Stars, local celebrities and radio station personnel from two local radio stations, WSIX and WSM-FM, who lend their names to the teams. Both teams arrive with all the usual kit required for a softball game: baggy shorts, silly trousers and various water weapons; and there are no prisoners taken. Expect the batting line-up to change by the inning so that everyone gets a shot at getting soaked.

There are usually some runs scored, too, but don't expect to see anyone hit the ball out of the park. Although it has been known for people to score an "in the park" home run if the ball is stolen by a celebrity dog... Don't worry if you don't know the rules; most of the players don't either and the officials turn more than a blind eye if they know what's good for them! Of course, the real purpose of this event is to raise money for the City Of Hope charity. As well as ticket revenues, there is a "silent auction" for celebrity items and the usual merchandise opportunities. So, if you want to know what Chely Wright or Gary Allen looks like in shorts, this is the game for you! |

Run On The Row |
The Run On The Row is a 5 kilometre (3 mile) charity run. There is also a 1 mile charity walk at the same time. The inaugural event took place on the Saturday immediately after Fan Fair in 1999 around a circuit passing through many of the streets in the Music Row area of Nashville. You can pay entry fees on the day, although you can save a few dollars by pre-booking. Take into account that, although the race starts whilst it is still relatively cool, you need to be fairly fit if you intend to run seriously. The inaugural running was followed by entertainment from Country group Blackhawk. The event is sponsored by a number of organisations including Sun Trust Bank and Arista Records, whose website will probably provide more info on the event for interested parties. |

IFCO Fun Fest |
The International Fan Club Organisation (IFCO) holds a show, usually on the Sunday immediately prior to Fan Fair. This will fit neatly in for fans leaving the softball game and heading up town. Having not actually been to the show, I can only point you in the direction of the IFCO Fan Fair website... Be quick, because the tickets go on sale well in advance and the venue has limited seating! |

Following the end of the association between TNN and Music City News, this is subject to developments... |
