Come, heart, where hill is heaped upon hill:
For there the mystical brotherhood
Of sun and moon and hollow and wood
And river and stream work out their will;

----------

Away, come away:
  Empty your heart of its mortal dream.
  The winds awaken, the leaves whirl round,
  Our cheeks are pale, our hair is unbound,
  Our breasts are heaving, our eyes are a-gleam,
  Our arms are waving, our lips are apart;

W.B. Yeats

Aninovo,
a mañá, cedo.
Gardan o seu sono no morno leito
o Cabo, os Bois, as Lobeiras,
despois de risa, bicos e bailes.
Durme, meu amor.

Monte arriba,
chove frio dende a noite.

A neboa aboia alto,
cara o leste, o vento da borrasca atlántica;
pequenas gotas
lixeiras, suspendidas no inquedo ar,
no húmedo, esvaído espacio.

Auga a moverse por tódolos currunchos,
en tódalas direccións,
esbara polas laxes fendidas, polos piñeiros mortos,
polas pesadas tuberías.

O vento asubía nos fios eléctricos,
funga polos buratos, rabea coas xestas, peta nas pedras,
desfai en fume os regueiros,
enfróntase as fervenzas.

Na milenaria canle de granito,
treito entre immensidades,
brúa o Xallas,
guíndase sobre o vento do oeste,
sobre as pozas, as laxes, os xigantes penedos,
salvaxe na percura do mar.

UN DE XANEIRO, 1996

New year's day,
early in the morning.
Escorting her sleep in the warm bed
the Cape, the 'Bois', the 'Lobeiras',
after laughter, kisses and dancing.
Do rest, my darling.

High up the hill,
cold rain falls since darkness.

Mist floats high up
heading east with the Atlantic cyclone winds;
light droplets
tremble, quiver in the unsteady air,
in the wet, blurry space.

Water, everywhere,
flushing every direction,
slides down the broken slabs, down the burnt wood corpses,
down the heavy tubes.

Wind whistles in the old power wiring, howls in holes,
blindly rages against brooms and stones,
blows up the flooded streams,
counters the heavy waterfalls.

In the millenary granite channel,
path between immensities,
flows the thunderer Xallas,
down the steep hillside, on the west winds,
pools, slabs, rocks,
heading savagely to the sea.
