Botanique lists more than 2,300 gardens, arboreta and nature sites in the United States and Canada in a searchable database, as well as a gardening calendar and other resources.
Botany.com, the Encyclopedia of Plants, is another resource for gardeners. It provides descriptions of plants, methods of cultivation, soil and temperature requirements, pruning, other important details, and the different varieties and hybrids. Phil Tuck has created a very informative site of British Follies and Monuments. Included are interactive folly maps of the United Kingdom as well as photographs and descriptions of many follies, classified according to county. Phil describes this site as the largest source of folly information on the web. Navigation is very user-friendly and the site is updated regularly. The site is searchable, too.
Follydock IFCR, the International Folly Contst Rotterdam, is a design competition for artists, designers and architects. The assignment is to design an original folly in the context of the Rotterdam harbor area. Apply through November 15, 2005. An international jury will judge the applications and announce the winner on December 15, 2005. An English Monville? Annette Lloyd Thomas has created an informative site devoted to John “Mad Jack” Fuller, Squire of Brightling, a younger contemporary of Francois Racine de Monville--Fuller lived from 1757 to 1834; Monville from 1734 to 1797. Like Monville, Fuller was an eccentric who associated with many notable figures of his day and had a penchant for constructing follies. And, like Monville, Fuller’s follies included a pyramid, an obelisk and a classical temple. Visit the site for photographs of Mad Jack Fuller’s follies and information about the prominent members of his social circle. Kirk Johnson writes an excellent column on Garden Design at Suite 101 and maintains numerous links to Italian, French, British, Dutch, German, Austrian, Eastern European, Islamic, Chinese, Japanese and North American gardens. This rich resource also hosts discussions on gardens.
Web author and publisher Karen Fletcher has created a sensational site called The Garden Gate which was selected by Forbes Magazine for inclusion in its Best of the Web list for 2002. A user-friendly home page allows the visitor to navigate easily throughout the rich content of the site. Sections include the Reading Room, containing online books, magazines and catalogues; the Teaching Garden, with databases, glossaries, FAQs and plant lists; a Garden Shop; and links to mailing lists and Usenet newsgroups and forums. Highly recommended. Edwinna von Baeyer has created a very extensive list of Garden History Links Around the World. Categories include Canada, the United States, Europe, France, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, China/Japan and Australia. Updated regularly. Although the Garden History Society web site has very little content aside from a cumulative index of the Society's publications, its Garden History Links to sites, archives, databases and other garden resources are very useful, and the online Forum allows visitors to share information, advice and opinions about garden history with others.
Jim Parra, the retired Garden Center Coordinator at the Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin, Texas, has created the Gardening Launch Pad, with over 4,689 links in scores of categories. The site includes the gardening tip of the week, current and archived articles, a book store and a list of preferred vendors. The Garden History, Visit and Travel Guide has a section on garden tours and maps of more than 1,000 historic gardens to visit in the British Isles, Europe and America.

If you like architecture, you will love the Great Buildings Collection. Historic Gardens is the website of the Historic Garden Foundation, established in the United Kingdom in 1995 to create links between everyone concerned with the preservation, restoration and management of historic parks and gardens and promote greater official awareness of this important but often neglected aspect of our national and international heritage. The Historic Garden Foundation publishes the Historic Garden Review three times a year and posts back issues on the site. Additional information on the site includes news and features, articles only available online and links. History of Landscape Architecture is a colossal collection of photographs and other images to accompany a series of lectures on the history of landscape architecture given by Kenneth Helphand at the University of Oregon. The images are organized into eighteen categories: Gardens Agriculture, Egypt, Greece, Roman, Primitive, Paradise Gardens, Islamic, Spanish, Moghul, Medieval Gardens, Forest, French Gardens, Pastoral, English Gardens, Parks Movement, America 18th-19th Century, and Boston. Unfortunately, there is no text and the site is not searchable, although each image is captioned. You just select a category, jump in, and enjoy! Hortus Oasis, a site by Stephen and Kristin Pategas, contains sections on landscape design, garden photography, educational programs and garden design tips. See particularly their selection of Favorite Public Gardens. Information Gardens features British gardens that are open to the general public, organized according to county. Included are many of the most famous and many of the lesser known, but equally as glorious: seasonal gardens, historic gardens, parklands, period gardens, cottage gardens, and garden museums.

Kew Web is the site of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. Had the Désert de Retz not fallen into abandon, it might have developed into a similar institution. The site has comprehensive information about Kew and access to information and databases. The National Gardens Scheme is a British charity which raises money for nursing and caring charities by opening gardens of quality and interest to the public. The Scheme publishes the Yellow Book, a definitive reference guide to private gardens which open to the public. The site's Garden Finder is a unique search and mapping facility to plan your garden visits. PlantsGalore.com, describes itself as the one-stop site for plant lovers. The site hosts an extensive list of gardening and horticulture resources on the Internet, including links to arboreta and horticultural gardens as well as plant clubs, societies and associations. There are around 3,000 gardens in its worldwide database including listings for almost twenty gardens and arboreta in France. The Postcode Plants Database generates lists of native plants and wildlife for any specified postal district in the UK. By typing in the first three or four characters of your postcode, you can obtain tailor-made lists of local plants, many of which are both hospitable to wildlife and suitable for gardens within your postal districts. The Missouri Botanical Garden Library is also offering 10 prints, taken from Köhler's Medizinal-Pflanzen, for sale through MBG Press. New Zealand photographer Jocelen Janon has created RosaRosam, dedicated to the world's most popular flower. The site features beautiful photographs of roses and other garden flowers as well as links to a searchable rose reference data base, a New Zealand plant finder, and other related sites. SAPLING stands for "Sapling, the Architecture, Planning & Landscape INformation Gateway." SAPLING hosts links to over 700 sites, organized in several categories including architecture, construction, heritage, housing, landscape, and planning. Discriptions are provided for each site, along with a star rating system. Scott's Botanical Links is organized through the Department of Botany and Microbiology of the University of Oklahoma.
