Music

So if you're here you're either looking for some good shit to dig or you're just looking for more info about me and what I listen to. Either way, this page is a work in progress. It is constantly evolving. Look forward to some great links and a whole album suggestion list for some really great and classic albums. Check back often!

World Music Links

World music is my latest thing that i am into. Check it out. Expand your horizons. A great place to shop for world music that you can preview is a place called Multi Kulti in the city. It's somewhere in New York City in the West Village by the Baggott Inn. Thompson and Sullivan St. area. A couple of other people have told me what a great place this is also.
My favorite quote encouraging world music knowledge is by (who else?) John Coltrane.

"When there's something you don't understand, you go humbly to it. You don' go to and sit down and say, I know what you're getting ready to teach me. You sit there and you learn. You open your mind. You absorb."

The Magic of Morocco

My first exposure to Moroccan music was from Randy Weston whom I had the pleasure of meeting and seeing at MSU this passed year. He travels with a whole band of Gnawa musicians and his performances are truly amazing.

Check out Randy Weston

If this Gnawa scene is for you, there's some great resident New York artists that are performing all the time.

Check out Hassan Hakmoun
This is a great bio of Hakmoun and his accomplishments.

Check out Gnawa Music
This has links to Hakmoun and other artists.
