A witch is a practitioner of Magick. They understand that it is a toll that can be used, harnessed, and developed. A witch understands the energy around them, flows with it and melds with it.
But, what exactly is Magick?
What is this tool that is used by witches?
How does it work?
To me, magick is the bending of energies to obey your will. The harnessing of that which binds all life, all emotions, all elements, and all times together. I see the energies as a web that runs through, around and within everything. Magick is simply plucking on the strings of this web and making them resonate to your will and inner being.
I believe there are many kinds of magick, none of which are 'black' or 'white'. I see these different types of magick as comming from different sources of your being. According to many occult and spiritual authors, what type of magick you use, depends on what you use it for. I do not agree with this. magick is a tool. It has no will of its own, no intention. I see the type of magick you use as coming from the part of the being used to create it. You may use emotion, the physical body, ritual, etc to create the magick.
I have separated the types of magick, as I see them, into four categories. I use all types of magick without predjudice, without reprecussion. I try to use magick in balance with all around me.
Base Magick This is magick that is derived from raw emotions: love, hate, anger, joy, etc. Ever notice how when you are happy, others around you tend to be as well. Ever notice that when you are cooking in a certain mood, people who eat the food tend to feel that? These are forms of Base Magick.
High Magick This is magick that is done through the divine self. Often it is done in the form of ritual, channeling, summoning, and meditation. High magick often uses the divine self to call from higher spiritual beings and draw energy from them.
Wild Magick This is any magick that is natural. When you use this magick, you call on the energies of your environment. This includes animal magick, elemental magick, tree magick, herbal magick, etc. Wild Magick can also include types of magick which just come naturally, without being honed.
Inner Magick This is any type of magick that you put your whole being into, mind, body, heart, and soul. This can be a blend of all the previous types of magick or just one. This can also include magick that comes naturally, unhoned raw magick.
Magick is a tool to be used and controled. Those who cannot control it, should not use it until they have gained control over the energies. If magick is out of your control, it usually means that some part of your spirit is out of control or out of balance. This can be your emotional self, your logical self, Your spiritual self, or your physical self.
All magicks results are in accordance to your will, whether it be will of mind, will of heart, or will of soul. To force the energies around you to act as an expression of your will, you must not only think that you can bend it, you must feel it, believe it and know it.
To practice magick, you must have the will to do so. All people have the potential to practice magick with great adeptness. Some people are born with the will, other learn it and develope it. All people who use magick should harness it as best they can. To allow yourself to use magick without the full knowledge of what you are doing is not only irresponsible, but also dangerous. A true witch learns to control the energies, utilizing natural skill and force of will.
