Meditation is used to relax the mind, to focus and train your mind to harness energies and ideas which are around it. It allows people to gain control of their thoughts and emotions. It allows one to focus on a particular thought or emotion, helping to find answers in chaos and in peace.

Meditation can be used for spiritual enlightenment, helping one gain insight into themselves and their motivations. It can open one up to themselves and that which lies within.

Meditation can also help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and aid in concentration. One does not have to be Religious or spiritual to benefit from meditation, although many faiths practice it as a way to get closer to the divine.

You may Meditate for as long or as short as you wish. You may meditate many times a day or once a year. There is nothing saying that you HAVE to meditate twice a day for at least 45 minutes at a time. Let it come naturally. Open yourself up to your natural rhythms and your natural pace. Don't force yourself into doing anything which your body does not want to do. Remember, no pain means no pain. Do not over work yourself; even meditation can be strenuous.

To learn more about your natural rhythms you may want to refer to a BioRhythm Chart. BioRhythms are the natural cycles your body goes through from the day you are born. There are three categories, Physical, Emotional and Intellectual.

Grounding is a very handy thing to know how to do, for some meditations and spellwork, it is an essential thing to do. It keeps one focused and steady. Often it keeps your energies in check and free from manipulation. It helps in meditation and most magickal practices.

To ground yourself you can do many things. You can draw upon earth energies to aid you, use grounding objects, or meditate. The easiest way I know is to connect with the earth energies and become a part of it. This can be done many ways. Some people use Yoga, others, just aura work. Wither way it is a very useful thing to know.

Grounding through 'Rooting'

  1. Relax. Get in a position which is most comfortable for you.
  2. Picture your energies opening up around you.
  3. Create strings of energy which go into the earth.
  4. Picture the earth and its energies surrounding you.
  5. Let your "strings" enter deep within the earth while the Earth Energies surround you.
  6. Feel the strength and solidity of the earth flowing through you.

Centering is used for the alignment of energies within yourself. It allows one to tune themselves to their energies. It helps balance and ground. It also eases transition into meditation. It alings ones Chakras which brings balance into your body.

To do this, all you need to do is run a string of energy through your body. Feel the energy flow from the top of your head, to your third eye, to your throat, to your heart, to your stomach, to your genitals, through the base of your spine, up your spin and back to the crown of your head. Do this until the energy flows smoothly and freely. If you feel a jerkiness in the flow keep doing it until it feels removed.

Meditation Techniques

Well, to prepare, find a place and relax. Sit in a way which is most comfortable for you. You might want some music playing or perhaps silence, that is up to you. Remember that you don't want to be suddenly jolted out of meditation. Make sure the lighting is not distracting and the temperature is comfortable. I have noticed that when you are not comfortable meditating, the displeasure of these things consumes your thoughts and meditation is hard. Make sure that you won't be bothered in any way when you start your meditation.

The most important thing in meditation is being relaxed. Allow your mind and body to slip into a relaxed state. remember, one cannot relax without the other.
