This Game Board
was made from several varieties of wood from
all over the world. One side of the game
board is a Chess Board
pattern made from Eastern Aromatic Cedar and
Lithiuanian Pine,
the center bar and banding is made of Macacauba. The
reverse
side of the board is for playing Backgammon and is
made from
German Spruce, Douglas Fir, and Antique Redwood. The
banding
that trim the triangles and main the field are also
Macacauba.
Poplar trim bands the edges of the board. |

The entire game board is
made from solid wood, no plywoods or
veneers were used. Each piece was fitted and glued individually, none of the pieces are inlays. The board is ¾'' thick and
measures approx
16 ½'' x 17 ¾''. I plan to build a tray to set it
in for playing and
storing the game pieces. The chess pieces are made
using
Apple and Maple. The Backgammon pieces are made
of
Cherry and Red Oak. Photos of the pieces will posted in the near future. |
