WILD BUFFALOS AT BALURAN

Baluran National Parks occupies an area of twenty five thousand hectares in the far north east of Java. Although a wild life reserve for already half a century, it was not until 1982 that Baluran's status was changed to that of National Park, by ministerial decree. The Park's unique attraction is the opportunity to observe wild animals in Java's last remaining natural savannah, which accounts for about forty percent of the Park's total area. Observation towers have been placed in strategic positions for use by visitors. The variety of wildlife to be seen at Baluran is quite extensive, and includes the buffalo, deer and banteng (Javanese wild ox).
