Poem by Frantz Jantzen written for his wife Elisabeth Goertzen
Translated in English
Receive now, my dear, this small gift,
And be mindful of:
That I am yours and you are mine;
I bestow to you in love
A faithful heart, a faithful mind.
Loyalty and true love
I from henceforth prescribe
With sincere intention to you.
This is my wish to you
From my innermost heart;
Your faithful bridegroom, Franz Janzen
To my dearly beloved bride, Elizabeth Goerzen
On the day of our engagement,
The 27th of October, 1822.
BIOGRAPHY
Frantz migrated in 1819 with his parents from East Prussia to South Russia, settling in the village of Rudnerweide, Molotchna Colony, according to his own letter. The following is a translation of a report written in German by Frantz Jantzen and can be found in the old Family Bible, now in the possession of Maria Janzen (Mrs. Ferd Schmidt):
"I, Frantz Jantzen, was born at 4 a.m. on March 8, 1798 and write this additional brief report:
'Anno 1819 I migrated with my parents from Prussia to Russia.
Anno 1802, Oct. 23, my wife, Elisabeth Goertzen, was born on a Saturday.
Anno 1822, Nov. 14, I was joined with Elisabeth Goertzen in Christian marriage.
Anno 1857, Dec. 27, my wife, Elisabeth, died at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 4 days.
The Lord has blessed our union in the name of God, the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.'
Frantz Jantzen of Rudnerweide."
Frantz died at age 64.
