BIOGRAPHY
Johann Jantzen was born on January 28, 1836 in Rudnerweide, South Russia to parents Frantz and Elizabeth (Goertzen) Jantzen. Johann was born the 8th of 11 children.
During the Crimean War (1854-1856), Johann was drawn into performing some military service as a "podvada", i.e., hauling food supplies with team and wagon to the Russian Army in the field. Johann later died violently in this war in January of 1856. This brief report is found in the old Family Bible and translated: "Johann arrived at Kleefeld still alive, but he died on the way between Kleefeld and Rudnerweide. His age was 20 years less 10 days."
