QRF / IRF Page

I was the NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge) of the Camp Butmir QRF. Additionally, I assisted in training the IRF, which was based out of Camp Butmir as well. Below are some pictures from the Butmir and Ilidza QRFs and the IRF.

The QRFs from Ilidza and Butmir, as well as the IRF, had distinctly different missions and training needs. On Ilidza, which was the Commander SFOR's HQ's, the QRF was immediately responsible for securing the Hotel Serbia and the CG (Commanding General) and Staff offices. On Butmir, which was located in the Bosnian Republic of Serbia, the primary mission was to prevent unauthorized access and delay/suppress any acts of aggression against NATO and SFOR personnel. The IRF was responsible for responding anywhere within the city of Sarajevo to any of the SFOR compounds and counter acts of aggression. Some of the training that was conducted at Butmir for the QRF / IRF was:

Medical / First Responder Tasks
     -Evaluate / Transport a Casualty
     -Apply field / pressure dressings
     -Splint Fractures
-Request Medevac

Weapons
    -M9 9mm Beretta Pistol
-Steyer AUG 5.56mm Rifle (Irish)
-Beretta SC 70-9 5.56mm Rifle (Italian)
     -M249 5.56mm Squad Automatic Weapon
     -M16A2 5.56mm Assault Rifle
     -M203 40mm Grenade Launcher

Riot Control
-Operate the M33A1 Riot Control Agent Disperser
     -Riot Control Formations
     -Use a Riot Baton

MOUT (Military Operations on Urbanized Terrain) Training
     -Enter a Building
-Move as a member of a Fire Team
     -Move under direct fire
     -Clear a Building
     -Conduct Surveillance
     -Clear a Danger Area
-Conduct the Maneuver of a Squad
     -React to Sniper Fire
     -Individual Movement Techniques in MOUT

Over 150 hours of direct training was conducted on a revolving basis on the above tasks. The training was subsequently backed up by daily and nightly alert exercises which required two teams of the QRF to assemble outside of the security building, ready for action and briefed on the situation within three(3) minutes. The IRF had fifteen(15) minutes from the time of notification to the OIC (1LT Kasker) to be ready, briefed and standing by their two ASV's (Armored Security Vehicles), ready to roll anywhere in the city for any situation.
