Hazel is the first IRC friend that I met; actually,it was at Mandarin Hotel, a lunch set up by Cappy and Snoopy (Samuel, who has gone MIA now). Sam works in the hotel and since the chicken rice is the most famous in S'pore, we decided to give it a try. Incidentally, Surfee (aka Matthew) was in S'pore, so he joined us, together with his little cousin :)
My first impression of her was that she's a real lively girl, not shy and very very friendly. She is very straightforward and frank, a real pleasure and fun to have in any parties! Having known her since Aug '96, I still find she possesses these great qualities. There is never a dull moment whenever I go out with her and Ginny.
I met her for the second time at the Mandarin Hotel again, this time it is a dinner with Alvin, who is Samuel's colleague. Cappy and I couldn't help but laugh when Hazel told us there is this 'sale' at a cybercafe in the east. Oh my! I like to tell people that Hazel alone could keep the whole ISP in biz, since she chats all day long! That's then, by the way, since now she is cured of her addiction hehe...She always has lots of amusing things and encounters with the weird and even downright perverted guys on the net. Also, she seems to have made lots of cyber siblings too! Haha! That was the 'in' thing then; if I'm not wrong, it still is popular with some.
It was after this dinner that we went to join another group of IRC chatters who frequent #asian on Qdeck. That's when I met Grinner (Kenny), Sonja (Ginny)and Shana (Serene) for the first time. It was much fun, as we chatted, and exchange criticisms of our own ISPs kekeke...
I next met both Ginny and Hazel months later. If I'm not wrong, it was sometime in Feb'97, when HamSupLo came to visit. We had a rolling good time at Boat Quay, and like I said, never a dull moment when one is with them. With Hammy too, the trio was a deadly combination! You could laugh till you cry! Haha!
Since then, we have gone out more often. Most of the time it is to meet other IRC mates like Penguin, Brad, Alvin etc. Since Hazel was waiting to go to the UK for further studies in Sept '97,and I did not start uni till mid Jul, we went out quite often. This is more so when Cappy was home for her holidays! I really miss having the 2 of them in S'pore; can't wait for Hazel to be home for good. Time really flies; all 3 of us have graduated, so no exams to complain about! But for Hazel, she should be doing her masters soon, so good luck baby! ;P
I just want to show you IRC sceptics how IRC can be a great way to make friends. This is a good example, since that's how we got started. You do not meet only phony and perverted people on the net, so do not be so harsh to judge us IRC chatters. Hazel is a great friend, and I wish you all could know her too :)
