I was first introduced to IRC by my best friend,Cappy in June'96. She brought me to the cybercafe in Boat Quay, and I was hooked on IRC from then on hehe... my own internet account was ready (FINALLY!) on 1 July'96, and I actually only managed todownload the programme, and logged in to Quarterdeck server a few days later, due to problems with my e-mails etc. That is a pain in the butt and I do not wish to elaborate!
From then on, my life has irrevocably changed. Sceptics think one meets only perverts (or pathetic people who do not have a life and thereforehave to find a virtual one) on IRC. That is not entirely true, since I have made many valuable friends in life, who started out just virtual friends. Good friends like Didier, Bruce, Hazel, Ginny and Ron(aka HamSupLo) are great examples of how simple virtual friends can be great friends in real life, after I've met them. And who says you only meet perverts on IRC??? The hunk who drives a Porche to work, or the little old lady who lives next door could well turn out to be real psychos, who knows? Just exercise caution in whatever you do and use common sense! THAT is how we all should be at all times, no?
You must have heard lots of stories about cyber-relationships. To quote my friend Ginny, who puts it rather succintly, "IRC relationships are not for the faint-hearted." I couldn't have put it better myself, and I'll deal with this topic in my Love Shrine.
I will add on to this list as soon as possible; if you feel hurt that I have not included you here, mail me your particulars and better still, include a picture of yourself!
