Died: 1986.


An actor's son, he tried his hand at various manual and white-collar jobs before deciding on an acting career in the early 30s. After playing a bit in a 1931 film, he joined the Royal Dramatic Theatre School as a classmate of Ingrid Bergman. He developed into one of Sweden's finest stage and screen dramatic actors and won international recognition for his elegant portrayals in Ingmar Bergman's films.
