Italian Classic Sauce

Makes about 2 quarts

  1. 1 large onion, chopped
  2. 3 tablespoons olive or cooking oil
  3. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  4. 2 cans ( 15-oz each ) tomato sauce
  5. 2 cans ( 6-oz each ) tomato paste
  6. 2/3 cup burgundy, beef broth or tomato juice
  7. 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  8. 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  9. 1 teaspoon oregano
  10. 1 teaspoon basil
  11. 1 teaspoon salt
  12. ½ teaspoon pepper

In 3-qt. casserole, place onion, oil and garlic. Microwave at High 3 to 4 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes, until onion is limp. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, wine, broth or tomato juice, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Mix together well. Cover. Microwave at High 12 to 14 minutes, stirring after 6 minutes, until very hot.

Italian Sauce with Meat

Add 2-lb. ground chuck beef, crumbled, seasonned and cooked.

Italian Sauce with Mushrooms

Add 2-lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced and sauteed.
