Effective communication systems are essential to Law Enforcement; however, communication systems are only as effective as the people that operate them. Therefore, it is essential that Explorers are taught not only how to use proper radio procedures, but use of the 911 system and the teletype(DCI). By doing this, Explorers get a full feel of police and dispatcher work and learn how to best serve the public needs in the best way for all types of situations.
The telephone is the primary means by which the public requests the service of the Department. For this reason, it is essential that all Explorers learn how to answer calls and what information to get for the responding officer(s).
The radio is the most used way for the dispatchers to stay in touch with the officers. Explorers recieve training to learn how to answer the radio correctly. They learn to speak in a clear, calm voice regardless of the situation. Training is also given on how to keep dispatch advised of the situation and\or location, but at the same time keeping the transmission brief.
