The Wabash County Dispatch is probably the busiest area of the Sheriff's Department. The members are
responable for answering ALL phone lines coming into the department, and then passing the call on to
the proper department (if not an in-coming request for patrol assistance). The dispatchers are the officers
only link to assistance. Dispatchers must know as much as an officer, they must able to dispatch the right
responding department, whether it be our officers, the fire departments, EMA, other police agencies, or any other
agency. Dispatchers work with a LARGE amount of stress, as they never quite know what they are sending an officer
into. But worst may be, when they DO know what they are sending an officer to. As we are a small department, everyone
knows everyone, personally.
CALLS FOR SERVICE
Total for 1997: Almost 10,000 calls
For 1998: 12,479
As an officer who depends on the dispatchers for everything, I would just like to say thanks, and keep up the fine work.
