Questions Frequently Asked
Will my personal information be given out?
The answer to this question is both yes and no. Your application is seen by 2 staff members. We have member pages, divided up
into branch of service. Your first name (and last initial if there are more than 1 of the same first name) will be put on that page...but to prevent "spam" mail...we will not put your e-mail address on the "public" pages. If someone should e-mail us asking for your e-mail address, we will get in touch with you *first*. It is everyone's understanding that we are not going to "spam" each other unless it's something that they feel we would be interested in...like POW-MIA issues, etc. If you have ICQ/AOL Instant Messenger, we have a page for *members only* who don't mind sharing their # or screenname with other members. If you have any other concerns regarding this, please ask!
I don't know any information regarding my parent when they were in Vietnam...is it necessary for you to have this information?
We feel this information is necessary to become a member. We don't want anyone who does not meet the requirements to be a member. That would defeat our whole purpose as a group. Please know that other groups like the VFW, American Legion, VVA, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and so on also ask for this type of information, but some actually ask for more information and/or copies of military forms as proof. For example, if you knew the parent was in the US Army, from 1966 to 1970,
that they were in the "Big Red One" & they were a medic stationed in a certain area, that would be fine. We are aware that if the parent is living, that it may be hard to ask them this type of information. But you would be surprised to know that some have asked & their parents are flattered that something they did sparked your interest. This may open things up between your family. We also know that if the parent is deceased or was a POW-MIA, that it may be harder to get this information. In either case, you may want to ask other family members to help you with this. You may also want to call the Veterans Administration in the state you live in. Also you may check out our page regarding military records.
I was wondering if I could get information on getting a scholarship...can you help?
Please check out our page regarding scholarships. There are some links and some advice there that may help you with your search! Good luck!
