MARINE HELICOPTER TRAINING SQUADRON 301
HMT-301
"Windwalkers"
HMT-301 was initially activated 1 April 1966 at MCAS(H)Santa Ana as a CH-46 training squadron. Aircraft shortages forced the squadron to equip with UH-34D and SH-34J. The squadron was redesignated HMHT-301 in May 1968, and replaced its UH/SH-34s with CH-53As. On 31 Mar 1972, Marine Helicopter Training Group 30 (MHTG-30) was deactivated, and its subordinate units combined into a single squadron, HMT-301. HMT-301 was deactivated 31 December 1994.
HMT-301 was reactivated 30 September, 1995 at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. The squadron served as the CH-53D FREST squadron until deactivating again 3 June 2005.
