Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 562 HMM-562

In 1967 Headquarters, Marine Corps authorized the formation of two temporary squadrons to provide refresher training for UH-34 aircrews and pilots headed for Vietnam. Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 562 was to have been the second of these squadrons, but the accelerated phaseout of the UH-34, combined with the low manning levels of the parent Group, MAG-56, resulted in HMM-562 remaining in a nonactive cadre status until MAG-56 was deactivated in 1971. No aircraft were ever assigned, although the official list of aircraft ID codes ("Visual Identification System") issued by the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations showed the code "ZY" from 1968 to 1971.
